I happen to bump into a senior this past weekend who graduated this year from the football team. He had some interesting things to say. I'll keep his name private out of respect for him but I'll share some of the things he said.
-He felt strongly that he does not believe GOL will make it through this season due to health reasons (pretty well known but hearing it from a player is always interesting)
-He does not think Key will be the head coach when GOL retires. He said people in the program do not want him to succeed GOL due to his lack of head coaching experience and they would prefer to go outside and get someone who has experience.
- The team was very disappointed with the draft results. They all thought TP and Hall were going to get drafted somewhere.
- He said the players get really disappointed when the stadium isn't full but he wouldn't go as far to say as our fans 'suck' as I asked him if that was team consensus and you could tell he thought our fan base was bad. Can't blame the players for that.
We talked for a good 30 min but those were the most interesting things.
Obviously nothing too surprising here as all this has been discussed in the dungeon but it is always interesting to hear it from a players mouth without a camera shoved in his face. The most surprising tidbit to me was that he doesn't think Key will succeed GOL.
