UGA is currently looking for their new HC and all signs point to Kirby Smart (Alabama DC).
Frost had the #1 offense 2 years ago, #2 last year, and after losing their best offensive player, dropped to #6 this year. Smart is basically the defensive equivalent to Frost. So UCF basically hired the same caliber of coaching candidate that UGA is looking at. The hosts said, you can view that as UGA setting their sights too low or UCF hitting the biggest homerun ever. Probably somewhere in between.

So in other words, unbiased outsiders think we pulled off the coup of the century today with the hire.

Bump. UGA did go with Smart, a high level coordinator with no HC experience. UCF definitely hired out of their depth when you think about it.

Hired out of their depth, is that a bad thing?
No it's a REALLY good thing. By all accounts Frost should have gone to a P5 school. We are unbelievably lucky to have him. I have no idea if he'll be a huge success or a failure, but we somehow landed one of the best candidates (with the highest upside potential) in this cycle.

So far the only people that haven't liked the hire from what I've seen are a bitter Oregon columnist who viewed it as a "defection" and USF fans who point out that they were excited about Skip Holtz initially too. I'd say we've done about as well as we could possibly do and I'm excited to see what Frost does with this opportunity.

UCF hired someone they shouldn't have
got? Same old media biased that
believes no G5 school should get
a great young coach. There's always
upset when P5 gets beat out by G5
in games or in recognizing good coaches before they do. Why don't P5
school stop hiring good ole boy retreads
and go after good young assistants. It's
their problem not ours. Not only that but Frost turned down other P5 offers and that's why UCF is catching some hate right now.

Hopefully these idiot P5 apologist will finally understand that UCF is not he average G5 job. College coaches now it, College administrators and Other fans bases know it as well.

It's crazy now that good young coaches
are proving themselves like Memphis ,Houston and Temple. Now all of sudden they have a problem with UCF
getting a good hire.

I hope now that more UCF Alumni will start finally supporting this program. We can go really far with more people in the seats and donations to athletics. Not that averaging 40k per game has been a bad thing most years. But if we want P5 inclusion we need full stadiums, thousands of new boosters and several more Multi-millionaires to give big dollars. Hopefully Danny is going to
help with that.

Well I'm excited now. When Frost said
he wants the talented speed kids in this state at UCF, and when he said they he doesn't need to go outside of FL to recruit to win big at UCF, I was sold at that point. A total 180 degree change from Oleary in recruiting! I love it.

Sec bias of sec bias will be their downfall. Sec peps actually believe coaching in the sec magically makes a coach better. I'm glad we aren't that myopic. Well some fans think we should only hire FL guys. Lol. All the evidence shows that being local makes no difference.

I see Frost as a great hire more suited for a G5 or lower P5 school than a school like UGA. I feel UGA is taking a risk with Smart. The Frost hire is similar to other recent AAC hires with Herman at Houston (previous Ohio State OC), Montgomery at Tulsa (previous Baylor OC), Morris at SMU (previous Clemson OC), Diaco at UCONN (previous Notre Dame DC). All were great coordinators (most running high powered offenses similar to Frost). Herman and Diaco were recent Broyles Award winners and Montgomery and Frost were finalists so all were well respected assistants. Obviously Herman has done very well at Houston but it remains to be seen with the others. We’ll see with Frost too but so far form what I have heard in the press conference and interviews he seems like the perfect fit to return UCF to the top of the AAC. He seems like a very intelligent guy and being a former quarterback I believe he will turn out to be a great leader as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if his impact is immediate similar to what Herman has done at UH.
On a related note, UNT appears close to hiring Seth Littrell (OC at UNC) who is another offensive-minded young OC with success at both Indiana and UNC. Looks to be a great potential hire for them too.

Here is the pecking order in coaching jobs.
Top 25 P5> Top G5> P5> G5> FCS> Div 2> Div 3
You always want an advantage in resources over the schools on your schedule. The top 25 P5, top G5 schools, top FCS, top Div 2 and top Div 3 programs have that. As a head coach you never want to coach at a school where you aren't favored in the majority of your games. This is why UCF is a better job than Miami, USCe, Syracuse, Illinois, Maryland, Iowa State and all the other schools not named USCw, UGA and VT.
