This is now the 3rd ship it's shot at in the past 30 days, and this time they actually hit the vessel with fire, despite the ship being in Intl waters.

Let's keep talking with these people- they deserve "contained" nuclear capabilities*

The incident began with the Iranians ordering the ship into Iranian waters. When the ships master refused, the Iranians began to fire in a way to try to disable the ship, not just as warning shots, the U.S. official said.

How long until the US Navy sends one of these boats to the bottom?

Here are the groups of people that oppose the ongoing nuclear talks:

1) Iranians that do not want additional scrutiny on Iran because their interest in a weapon. An agreement would make that more difficult to attain

2) Americans and Saudis that don't want Iranian oil on the market

3) Americans duped by those in category 2 that use fear and bullshit to sway opinions.

Here are the people blindly in agreement that a deal makes sense:

1. People who have no sense of history, and think the Iranians will finally keep their word this time, after decades of lying and manipulating gullible western leaders

2. People who think there will actually be a credible way to verify anything in this agreement. Nevermind the fact that the Revolutionary Guard has already said that access to military sites is off limits. Nevermind the fact that Rhouhani has admitted in public that he duped inspectors for years from the last agreement. Nope, this time it's different!*

3. Oil companies and oil traders who really don't care about long term regional stability, so long as there's opportunity to tap the Iranian oil market

Liberals:

Americans are racist homophobes bigots!!!÷!!

Iran is great and should be our ally (we'll just overlook that whole women slavery thing and it being illegal to be gay)!!!!!

It would take centuries for Iran to ever be considered an "ally" with the U.S. (if ever). That's not what anyone wants right now. The ongoing talks are an acknowledgment that 1) current and past policy hasn't slowed Iran's nuclear development and 2) There are moderates within Iran with whom opening a door to an eventual relationship would be beneficial.

The U.S. isn't naively bending over to Russia or Iran in these talks, contrary to what is being served on the conservative bullsh1t buffet on this issue.

Lulzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The current strategy absolutely has slowed their march to a bomb- it has taken billions of dollars out of the hands of the Revolutionary Guard and the radicals who run the country. It's hilariously naïve and stupid to believe that once the floodgates open, and money comes pouring into the country again, that they'll not use that to further their ultimate end goal of obtaining nuclear capability.

Plus once the sanctions are lifted, putting them back will be near impossible. The Russians and Chinese will have their investments in place and won't give a flying shit if the Iranians get a bomb- it won't be aimed at them!

It'll also be great watching Iran expand its funding of terrorism with the new windfall of revenues.

Do you living in fantasy land all the time, or are you just chronically high from the heavy amount of drugs?

EE is going to get his Utopia even if he has to completely blind himself to real life and live in an imaginary world.

"Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world" - US State Department report

EE: "FEAR MONGERING!!"

Nope, but I recognize nuance and see that were in a moment in history where we have an opportunty to exert some political influence in a dangerous nation and we need to take advantage of it before the door closes. Again, our interest is with developing relationships with moderates in the country that can rein in some of the extremist viewpoints held by some.

Holding the view that indefinate sanctions with no path to ever attempt to forge a relationship with moderates in Iran will lead to a less dangerous situation seems more like a fantasy to me. Lack of economic opportunity pushes people more to the extremes, so when a door opens to possibly change that situation, we'd be dumb not to try to take advantage.

Not everyone in Iran shares the view of the Ayatollahs.

Right, and I'm sure that supposed army of moderates will be overthrowing the Ayatollah soon*

Have to start somewhere. Nobody sees lolly pops and rainbows after the deal... We do see an opportunty to support moderates while squeezing the revolutionary guard and extremists economically. Even a small increase in U.S. influence can go a long way in easing the push towards extremism that lack of opportunty exerts, while making life very hard on those we don't want to have power.

I have news for you- there will still be absolutely no US influence in Iran after this terrible deal is signed. Iran wants to make a deal for one reason only- lifting sanctions and getting money flowing back into that country again. They have absolutely no desire to have any influence from the US. Just recently the Ayatollah attended a rally where "Death to America, Death to Israel" was the rallying cause.

You are dangerously naïve and don't seem to understand what's really going on.

It seems you're naive to believe the United States of America is going to be left holding its dick while a cadre of crazy Iranians go off to celebrate pulling a fast one over on us if an agreement is signed. We will not enter an agreement with Iran that doesn't give us more power to exert our will in the country and combat extremist views. Period. The only reason people believe this is even a possibility is because they've been fed a false narritive that's fostered a huge amount of mistrust of our President, it's pathetic.

C'mon 85, stop being a xenophobe. Once this deal is signed the moderates in Iran will sing kumbaya with the Ayyatollahs and play with bubbles and unicorns. It's not like the leaders of Iran have a history of killing people that disagree with them.

The sad thing is that we're completely dicking over our actual allies to make this deal with a country that literally hates our existence.

Probably why of the 6 Gulf leaders invited to Camp David to meet with Obama, just 1 actually came.

I don't see a problem here, why should we be the only ones who can shoot at others at will.

Here is another:

People with the common sense to know that no matter what Iran says, they will continue to develop nuclear weapons no matter what they say or do.
