I'm sure you didn't really think hard on your response. He was coached by the same guys as Chris Martin, Torrian Wilson, and the Mcray twins (I'm sure you will correct me if I am wrong) and they didn't "play like that."
^^^ This has been what I've been asking.
I'll indulge all the Key-haters out there, the "donKeys" if you will ... and assume Key is the absolute problem at OC. Now with that out of the way, I ask again ...
Was Key incompetent as the O-line coach?
Because I've read everything to the contrary. Player input, other commentary, even any off-hand comments from anyone inside the actual program, under the coaches or with the players? Not as an OC, but as the O-line coach.
Now that said, I really hate seeing this ...
He isn't as good as his potential because he probably doesn't care enough. He probably doscovered beer and women like most college kids and isn't trying hard.
Why do we ever go there?
I will concede there is a senior-leadership problem on the team. That seems to be for certain. GoL has long stated he, and the coaches, are very dependent on the leadership of the seniors.
But why did we have to go there? Let's go beyond seeking any evidence that this is the reality in his case, why did we even go there?
I think losing is bringing out the worst in our fanbase.
He's a student-athlete who chose UCF. If he's on target to get his degree, then I seriously doubt it was beer and women. Unless I also see the grades slip, I seriously doubt it's this, because the two are often tied.
The O-line is one of the most cohensive units on the field, and has to work hard as a team, practicing for some time. I don't believe a single, individual is going to lift up the entire unit. They are the guys with virtually no stats ("pancakes" at most), rarely praised, but always blamed (only negative stats, like "sacks allowed").
