Serious question.

With Kyle McCord, Dillon Gabriel and many others entering the transfer portal, many for the $. Most will not play in the bowl games.

Except for the CFI games.

Is NIL killing the bowl games?
If the players are saying F it, how long until the fans say the same thing?

NIL actually may help bowl games, at least CFI games. I would expect players to start sitting out even CFI games.

NFL Draft players were already sitting out because the risk was too much when you are facing a 7-8 figure payday if you just sit out. However, if NIL obligations require you to play in order to receive money, now they have incentive to play.

Bowl games are killing bowl games. They’ve been dead for a long time. They are at lifeless neutral sites with mostly mediocre teams going against each other. Before the portal, plenty of guys would sit out due to preparing for the draft if it wasn’t the playoff/title game.
I say it all the time, there are just too many. They can't even come up with good names. The Pop Tarts Bowl, really? There's no history or pageantry in almost any of them, just $$.

How about if you want to have this many bowl games, make half of them on a home field. The top half can be the ones with a chance of filling up a neutral stadium.

Of all the cringy bowl names there have been, I wouldn’t rag on the Poptart bowl…..the edible mascot thing may be the highlight of the whole bowl season if done right.

Damn girl, you freaky! What’s your favorite flavor? You like that cupcake? Snickerdoodle? Maybe you likes em dark like some brown sugar or chocolate?

They should put it in the obligation of the athlete that they have to complete the year including bowl games for their NIL money

I had to google that. Dillon Gabriel enters portal. That is strange and interesting.

I like the bowl games. It's just entertainment to me and for the teams it gives them extra practice and if players sit out or transfer it gives the next man up to get some playing time.

The teams and fan of teams that don't have a bowl game to watch are probably wishing they had one.

Good point to consider!

Another good point about extending practice!

The struggle never ends. We thought going to a power conference would help UCF get to the next level. NIL and these a--hole money-hungry, leachy, lawyers like the one in the posted video, are destroying college football and UCF's ability to get to the next level. I hope I am wrong, but UCF will probably never get to where we want because we will not be able to raise as much money as the established, well-known schools. As a UCF alumni I want to keep supporting my school, but NIL is quickly making me lose interest as a college football fan.

That nil guy in the video came off really unlikable

the nil curveball definitely has a chance to neutralize all the advantages we have said UCF had for years before the Power 5 invite.

Government may need to get involved bc gutting female sports affects our Olympics Program if they have less places to go to develop at the Collegiate level.

Geezus!!! I thought that was a joke name. There really is a Pop Tarts Bowl? What would they call it if they used the Pop Tart with extra fiber? The Poop Tart Bowl?

Also, what does the trophy look like? A toaster?

They will have an edible mascot…could be epic, score a TD and take a bite

I think NIL is not just killing bowl games but everything that was good about amateur athletics. I think it has a created a very sad situation for collegiate sports.

Make the bowl game actually matter instead of a 4 team bias playoff. They go to 12 next year thankfully but if your not playing for it all why risk being hurt.

There definitely needs it be serious regulation with this NIL. It is already getting out of hand.

I think the playoff killed bowl games. They are nothing more than glorified exhibition games at this point. Which honestly, they have always been that way for the most part, but with a playoff I think it just makes them seem even less important.

For UCF what made bowl games special was because it was the first few bowls they ever played in. For other schools is the opportunity to play teams they would never get to play. In terms of tv viewers it was an opportunity to watch a team they normally don't get to see.

This day in a age, you have teams playing more games yearly, travelling cross country to play all different programs, and finally a person at home can watch on weekly basis multiple game on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and several on Saturday. If I wanted to watch the Mountain West, I can see several of their games every week.

I don't understand how the other bowl games are going to survive with a 12 team playoff. I guess people will watch their school, but is anyone really going to care about traveling and watching on tv mediocre to above average teams play each other in what are basically consolation games? Aren't they basically just going to be a football version of nit games?

I mean…isn’t that what we are all doing today?

Yes, but with 12 teams in the playoff it's going to be even worse. And I don't think ratings for a lot of these games are very good already.
I don’t see anything changing drastically with the bowl season except for more people watching the playoffs now as more teams are included.

We will see, but I think the bowls have already lost a lot of interest, and this isn't going to do anything to change it. I'm not sure adding another regular season game and getting rid of the bowls wouldn't be better. I mean colorado vs tcu in an early game in week 1 got about 4 times the viewers as the non NY 6 games last year. And I get deion was behind a lot of that, but still, what is the point of continuing these bowls if no one is really watching?

The Bowl games always have "public service / philanthropic" element to them .... e.g Shriners Childrens Hospital , St. Jude's , etc.
