Facilities, money, recruiting footprint, fan support, history of winning, weather.

Not available, I mean overall. Some good ones for me are:

Cincinnati
Houston
USF
BYU
San Diego State
Hawaii
ECU

I think it has to be. There's still potential to get into a P5 conference too. Coaches want a chance to go to places where there's a commitment to winning -- we've got that and every other ingredient.

It is the best G5 job and better than some P5 jobs as well. For example- I believe most coaches would choose UCF over the open Illinois job. IMHO opinion, it is better than Miami as well. They may have a trophy case, but they don't have a stadium, the facilities, a real fan base, or an administration that supports the program. This off-season is going to be interesting.

Best G5 job hands down is BYU. They have a huge national following. They won a National Championship in football. Their facilities are top notch.

1) BYU
2) Cincinnati - Top notch facilities, proven winner under multiple coaches,
3) C. Florida - Nice facilities, good recruiting area, 50% funded by student fees
4) Boise State - Lots of success, great fanbase, no other good football schools in area
5.) ECU - Nice stadium, good fanbase, horrible location
6.) SDSU - Only football school in San Diego area, fertile recruiting.
7.) S. Florida - Good recruiting area, some football success, bad stadium arrangement

I was thinking BYU because of facilities and fan support but their drawback is recruiting area and type of athletes they have access to due to religion.

Houston and Cincinnati make a strong case for #1.

The way the American Conference is playing out this season, it definitely is.

This is a great point. Having a strong conference only helps when it comes to rankings and national recognition. Coaches want to be able to get quality wins in conference.

The bar will be set very low for the next guy. We potentially could go from 0 to 10 wins in a year with the right coach.

Stop it. This is the kind of thinking we need to avoid because it sets expectations way to high to quickly. You say this and then we only win 3 games next year and some of you dumasses will be calling for his head at the end of next year.

Recruiting is in shambles and the cupboard is pretty bare (it doesn't matter who's fault this is, its the reality). We have true freshman all over the field. The new coach will need a minimum of 2-3 years to get things going. We don't have the talent Houston had when Tom took over the job there.

If we can salvage this recruiting class and with an innovative offense that utilizes our players strengths, we can be very good as soon as next year. Demetrius Anderson and Chris Williams are coming back next year to a defense that is playing well and will return nearly all of its starters. An offensive guru with a gimmicky offense should be able to utilize the talent that we have and everybody on offense is coming back with experience. We may not be undefeated like Houston, but there is potential for some really exciting football to be played at BHNS next year, which should increase attendance. It's a good situation for the right guy.

I agree with some of this. The defense should be solid. I think they are pretty decent now, but they are just on the field the entire game. What worries me on the offense is the lack of speed. Our receivers get 0 separation. And a new coach with a "gimmicky" offense is great until our receivers drop 8 or 9 passes a game like they have been this year. It will get better, especially the o-line play. I do believe there is talent here, but its just extremely young.

Wilson and Payton are burners, like you said they are young. With experience the dropped passes will go away. The line could be much improved with Hiers and everybody back. A good OC might be able to figure out how to get Bo and Justin on the field together.

Bruce Feldman seems to think so, he basically was drooling over this job opening yesterday. There apparently has been a lot of chatter about the UCF job through agents the past few years

We're definitely in the mix for top G5 job. Before this year I probably wouldn't have said this, but Memphis is a job that could be in that category as well.

The posters that have said UCF is better than the UM job are a little crazy. Yes, the job doesn't have the prestige it once had, though they'd have to be in the toilet for a decade for this to happen.

They're in the ACC, have big national rivalries, and are much less of a rebuild then UCF.

Next year we play at FIU and Michigan. We play Maryland at home. In conference we get Tulsa, Tulane, Temple and Cincy at home with USF, UCONN, ECU and Houston on the road. Looks on paper to be a tougher schedule than this year's. The bare minimum expectations, IMHO, would be to win at FIU, Tulsa, Tulane, at UCONN, and at USF. We should be able to win those contests in any given year (note the should). Due to the fact that we'll be returning almost the entire team and we will have a senior QB, I see no reason that we should set the bar any lower than bowl eligibility for next season's goals.

UCF's location not only as a recruiting footprint but as a desirable place to live is very attractive.

There are coaches that would rather take this G5 job and live on a golf course vs a P5 job in Ames, Iowa

The best job is the one that pays the most. UCF's fan/alumni financial support is small.

HOLY CRAP! I actually agree with you on something.

And remember last season when Akins was dropping everything thrown his way... and look how much we miss him now. Whoever comes in to coach is going to have a talented and somewhat experienced team.

"Why would you consider UCF as the best G5 HC job?" would be a great interview question.

As a fan I would like to hear the candidate explain how:
a) they could win with the existing players (offense change/defense change?);
b) they could recruit more players from within the state of Fl;
c) they like and want to continue the culture;
d) they see ways to grow the fan base;
e) they can increase the brand of UCF football on the national level.

Personally, I would rather have a highly regarded assistant from a P5 program than
a head coach who is at a lower level.
