Is Venezuela communist or socialist?

If a person makes a reference about China, Cuba, or the USSR being socialist, its often met with the claim that they are communist. Does the same apply to Venezuela? 10 years ago there was a ton of love heading their way, pointing to the success of democratic socialism. Does that still stand?
