Jacksonville boasts a 161 NET. That places them just below the threshold for qualifying as a Quad 3 win (which for home games is 160). This means that they have a good chance of ultimately becoming a quad 3 win if they do their job in conference play.

They also present an excellent opportunity for us to make a big NET jump. While the committee has emphasized that your team’s NET isn’t really what is important but rather the NETs of the teams you play, UCF’s NET is currently 85. Our KPI is 37, SOR is 35, WAB is 56, Kenpom has us at 81, BPI at 72.

Beating a 161 NET team by, say 20, would get us a pretty big jump. To give you perspective, when South Carolina beat a BC team w a NET of 194 by 23 pts, they jumped 45 NET spots. When FAU beat Jacksonville at home by 22 points they jumped 18 NET spots. If we did the same I’d expect a jump of 6-14 NET spots.

Since margin of victory (by way of offensive efficiency scoring) is the one thing holding UCF’s NET back, a 20+ point victory would be even more of a boost for us (maybe 15-19 spots if we win big enough). It’s important.

Our metrics are currently such that we are positioned to make the tourney if we go .500 in conference play, possibly even if we go 9-11. https://bracketologists.com/matchup/NDAxNzE1NjUw

Of our non-conf wins, TAMU gave us a quad 1 win. Wisconsin was a quad 1 L and LSU was a quad 2 L. The hope is that FAU (current NET of 86) will get to a 75 NET over the course of the season - that would make them a quad 2 win. Jacksonville (current 161) getting above 160 would make them a quad 3 win (presuming we win). Both would be good for our resume. TAMU keeps winning, though Wiscy has dropped a little (still quad 1). LSU is currently ranked 58 in NET. If they get to 50 or above they will be a Quad 1 L. Possible but maybe difficult given the SEC gauntlet this year. Still, they have 2 straight quad 4 games before they start conference play (SEC only does 18 conf games unlike B1G and Big 12 who both do 20). If LSU can blow both remaining non con opponents out they’ll get close to 50.

Can’t sleep on Jacksonville though. They’re closer in quality to a Purdue Fort Wayne (NET of 120) or Milwaukee (NET of 121) than a Tulsa (NET of 319). California Baptist, who we beat by 15 points, had a NET of 198.
