Really put UCF on the map as an institution and was a huge supporter of athletics. UCF isn’t in the Big 12 without him.

Truly the reason UCF is where it is. RIP 🙏
Wow, I was there with my nephew who was touring campus and attending one of the honors college intros and pointed out the new facade on the library and commented how it was named after him and thought about how much he did for UCF at that time. This was late in the afternoon after 4PM, got to think this was more than a coincidence. I truly liked the guy and remember how he always took the time to talk to me and at one time, in the Alumni Center, he listened to me as I lobbiEd for UCF in the BIG12. This is going back at least 10 years. Most of that credit surely goes to him.

He was also a man of the people. I remember seeing him eating in the dining halls multiple times during my freshman year
I remember him riding around on his bike! His legacy of growing our university will forever endure. Rip Dr. Hitt, it was a pleasure to shake your hand when I graduated.
He was a regular at Knightros, saw him there all the time as well. Always surprised me as a student that the university president would be eating in dining halls but I definitely respected him for it.
My only complaint was he championed hard to Aresco to get his alma mater Tulane into the AAC. It doesn’t matter now, but that did help to put a complete end to what was left of the Big East.
Bummed. I met him while working a function back in 2003. Was a genuinely nice guy. RIP

Without his vision we wouldn't be where we are today! What he did in the mid 2000's set us up for the success we are benefiting from today.
