At least according to an ESPN insider cited by Deadspin. I do believe that.

How incredible is that? He's making more money at ESPN that any other NFL coach, unless I'm mistaken, and he basically works 5-6 months out the year, in a job where he's tasked to watch football and make comments.

We'll see how long that lasts though; ESPN is not doing so hot financially and reported that they need to cut $100M in cost going forward.

It just depends on how much he is still a coaching degenerate. Coaches are just like gamblers, they need that fix. I mean, how else would you get so many people to work 20 hours a day in a job you have a 90 percent chance of getting fired from?

This is probably why these Sunday morning shows have so many really good ex-coaches on their panels who are....not coaching. The fact that Bill Cower hasn't returned to coaching yet is shocking, but then again, he's probably making a ton of money to talk football. He stepped away from coaching at 50 and hasn't looked back.

But you also have to step back and ask ... who can do it? As much as we like to make fun of certain, "overpaid" celebrities who aren't seemingly worked as hard as others, and indeed some are hired by friends or in some shady deals who are undeserving, most are there on their ability to get viewership and positive feedback.

After all, when TV first came along, some of the radio broadcasters of live sporting events had to completely adapt. We're going to see a similar shift in the coming years as we start getting a mix of live viewing with alternative commentary. Those who do have the personalities to keep people watching them will do very well.

I don't see Chuckie getting less popular, even if I think he's overrated myself.

Big media is undergoing a transformation. ABC-ESPN is already starting to feel it. It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes. It will also be interesting to see how much conferences actually get in future deals.

Too early to say. Ditka, Vermiel, Parcells, Gibbs, Switzer all got out for a while, then started coaching again.

Gruden is on happy pills or something. He finds something positive to say about every player. You can really tell that he has a love for the sport by the way he speaks. I think the fact that he is so positive makes him a desirable commentator.

I'd be extremely giddy too if someone was paying me $6.5M/year to watch football and discuss.
