Does anyone have any idea why Akins is getting so few reps? 2 receptions for 52 yards? This time last year, he already had a 100-yard game.

Do you think it's still recovering from the knee injury or just that the coaches really love Franks over him?

I was wondering the same thing....surprised we haven't seen more of Akins on the field.....hopefully he doesn't have any lingering injury issues.

Position move, last year he was our number one receiver this year he is splitting time at tight end

Last year, with a lot more inexperienced team, Akins and Smith had a combined 23 catches in first 2 games of the season (included a road game against P5 power where Holman was knocked out of the game).

This year, in 2 games, including a road game vs P5 power where Holman gets knocked out of the gane, Akins/Smith have just 6 catches combined.

I think there will be some changes to game plan this Saturday to get the ball a lot more frequently to the best weapons on the team. (Maybe more carries for Killins too, who just had 1 vs Michigan that went 87 yds for TD).

Holman has only completed 17 passes for 212 yards this year... 2 for 52yds is a very significant portion of our pathetic passing production.

If our O line could sustain a pass block for longer than 1.5 seconds, we may be able throw down field. Maybe.

Still, that doesn't explain why he is splitting reps- Franks was a WR last year as well. Akins should be getting the reps over Franks regardless. And I'd say he is still the #2 pass catcher on the team talent wise after Trequan.

That's actually a very good point. But it also seems like he isn't getting targeted, let alone on the field. I'd understand if he just didn't have catches, but I barely see him on the field.

Michigan posters only think that they had injured players. Could have used his size in man to man coverage
He's not injured, he just didn't play the whole game. I think Frost is trying to figure out which one of the TEs is going to be his #1.

None of our top receivers were getting catches. His single catch each game were for big yardage. Secondly, UCF played two TE's a lot more than usual against Michigan, so they weren't splitting time on all the downs. Note the way they got to Akins: pump faking to wide out behind the line, and then hitting Jordan way downfield. He was similarly wide open on that side against SCSt.

I like Akins I think he could be really good at the tight end position. Maybe it's run blocking or some other skill that Franks is doing a better job. :sunglasses:

Not enough complete passes to spread the ball around yet. Plus he is at tightend and Holman has previously been in a situation where he rarely to never threw to the tightend so I wonder if it might take some time for him to think of that option?
