Jordan Franks played primarily wide receiver in high school, UCF coaches saw untapped potential as a defensive player thinking the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder would translate well to the other side of the ball.

The Crawfordville, Fla., native impressed as a freshman last preseason, earning a spot on special teams and as a pass-rushing defensive end though he practiced during the week with the linebackers. He played in every game, totaling eight tackles on the year.

Now entering his sophomore season, Franks has made the move to safety where he could be poised to earn a starting job. He began the spring as a backup, but has been recently promoted to the first team.
