JRP not running late in the game?

Can someone explain to me why JRP did not run the last few plays of the last drive when he could have easily picked up the 3rd and 5 or the 4th and 5? I went home and watched and both plays there was a gaping hole in the d-line and plenty of room to run and extend the drive. I know time was running down, around 1 minute or so, but he could have easily picked up the first down.

The defense was daring us to pass and the look they gave us showed that the pass would be open (if we could throw or have time to throw). However, we should have run anyways. 1st and goal from the 9...we should score 9/10 times with a mobile QB.

Remember when Frost sent the team out in the I formation on the goal line?

A goal line package seems like something we should have.

I think coach told him to use his arm as they were doing a decent job of spying. I also believe he has to learn to use his arm more effectively to open up the running lanes. I'd rather use his legs with a called QB draw or option run play. If the pocket is 50% clean, then get him to throw. I think we're talking about the throw to Townsend right? That one he would have made with his legs but he should have made it with his arm too. The throw to the back of the endzone for Jaylon Griffing was what the coach wanted. J Griffin ain't at beast mode where he can rip the ball away in a 50/50. He was real close to doing it. But he's just not that strong yet.

Against SC State and FAU is when you work on passing. We need wins. In SC State he did force the run a bit. But trying to go the complete opposite just because, against UL wasnt the right decision.

We were 6.5 point favs vs Louisville and 8 point favs vs FAU. But maybe we can work on the passing vs temple.

Simple. He didn't realize Louisville switched to a three-man front and played coverage because--unlike UCF savior Mikey Keene--JRP is NOT a quarterback.

If O'Keefe is out and the team plays like they did against Louisville, it's going to be a dogfight to the end.

FAU scores about 40 a game. Their defense isnt as good as it was a few years ago when we played them. We should be able to score points. Wonder if the defense can hold them under 30.

Why is the Barner allowed here? He’s clearly got a hard on for our crap coach and third string qb

FAU is coordinated by Gus protege' Brent Dearmon. He went from an NAIA head coach to FBS offensive coordinator in one season. That's about as big of a jump as a coach can make. He replaced Chip Lindsay at FAU.

I don’t know, but is he wrong? A this point have we conceited that we have a QB that cannot throw the ball (from all I’ve seen he can’t) and his best use is as another RB?

I’ve already seen in this thread that we should or maybe shouldn’t be using the FAU game for our 4th year transfer QB to “practice” passing - yeah, that sounds like we may have an issue.

The Barner will address this.

As for Question One...

No. 1 I want UCF to win every game it plays convincingly!

No. 2 I despise all who oppose UCF.

No. 3 I know a lot of really good stuff about Gus and football.

None of that should make me your enemy.

As for Question Two...

The "crap" coach is your favorite team's head coach, who you should support fully.

He is also a coach that led the barn to two national championship games in a span of four football seasons. Auburn had won only one in its previous 100-year history of playing football.

I also support the returning starting quarterback, who was undefeated in high school and won multiple state titles at one of the nation's more prominent quarterback-producing programs. In fact, the No. 1 overall prospect for the Class of 2024 is a quarterback from Keene's high school.

I also support the returning starting quarterback because...

He has a better record as a collegiate starter than the other guy, and has proven he can read defenses and go through progressions without locking into one receiver. Yes, he does have limitations.

I am not against the other guy, who was 23-15 as a starter in high school and never won a state title. I am simply for playing both like was done in the spring game.

They were doing a good job of containment on JRP during the game and I'm sure that this was on his mind. I know there was one play at the goal line where he handed off the ball and it looked like if he kept it and ran around the end he would have scored. In the heat of the battle both good and bad decisions are made. I've resolved myself to the understanding that this offense needs time to grow together and hope that they do it quickly in September before the conference games. We should win the FAU game and the GT game will give us a good forecast of how the conference schedule will play out.

I'm not going to hit the panic button on this offense just yet. If we struggle against FAU's defense that will change. Louisville was always going to be a close game. They beat us with DG last year and I knew it would be a struggle with a QB that isn't nearly as experienced. Hopefully, each week we see improve in JRP's accuracy and decision making.
