Just Another Immigrant

I’ll have to watch. I was about to stop my Showtime sub but I just saw the The Affair is back and I kept it.

I did cancel HBO- at least until GOT, or they prove they can make a non shit show outside of GOT

We were all set to start the new season of The Affair when we saw the cover for Just Another Immigrant. My wife had seen a commercial for it, but I hadn't heard of it. Five minutes into the thing and we were hooked.

The Affair has two episodes to get its shit together or I am done. It was awful last season.

Showtime likes to drag things out with their content and let things go on and on and on. See: Dexter, Homeland, Californication, Shameless, et al.

Last season wasn't bad. The first episode this season was good; the last one was way too slow.

Homeland is a show that they should have just ended a while ago. Last season was just so absurdly dumb.

Great point about Dexter and Homeland. I lasted two seasons for each of those before I checked out. Californication and Shameless I only lasted an episode. I agree that The Affair started to jump the shark for me last season, but I'm hopeful that things get turned around.

Last season's Affair was beyond stupid, highlighted especially by washed-out actor Brendan Fraser's completely shitty performance as a fat prison guard. Maybe that was the point, but things really started going downhill for that show the previous season when they decided to recap for the millionth effing time how the kid drowned and why his cement-faced mom (who also is a shitty actress) is messed up.

Both Showtime and HBO need to start opening up their wallets and recruiting the talents of the writers for Netflix shows. Black Mirror, Sense 8, Stranger Things, Ozark, and many others absolutely destroy anything those two channels have put out in the past three years, save GOT.

I like Ruth Wilson (Allison), they just need to give her character more to do. Last season was also dumb because it focused so much, for no reason, on the random French woman who somehow ended up getting her own perspective in the Season Finale, only to end with everyone not giving a shit. At least this season has started with Allison not being a total mess and actually having a job and her shit together (for now).

Don't forget Godless on Netflix too. Awesome new show.

HBO is in big trouble once GOT ends since they have no franchise show waiting after that. Everything they've tried has ended up sucking - even Westworld Season 2 got turned into a boring, lame mess.

I've never had a problem with immigration. Immigration is the lifeblood of the US.

Unfortunately we do not actually have immigration. We have 'indentured servitude' work visas and 'organized crime' human trafficking.

This is what gets me about the left as much as the right.

Read the context of the thread, for Christ's sake.

I did. I actually just wanted to add how I felt about the topic in general. I would actually like a good show in immigrants, and all the BS they have to go through.

OMFG fap fap fap fap fap fap

Seriously, though, HALO made up a lot of my entertainment time throughout my life.

We killed a lot of time as Freshman at UCF playing HALO in our dorm. I have no idea how, but we would play 3-4 players while huddled around a tiny TV. Now I need a 65 inch just to see what's going on w/ Call of Duty.

Just admit you effed up.
Fair enough. I knew what the show was, but given the 'lead in,' I thought it would be cool to introduce the idea of actually having a show on immigrants. Apparently I was in the tiny minority, and given that, I f'd up.

Agreed? I can admit when I'm wrong.

HALO ... doing for consoles, with far less control, than what PC gaming had over a decade earlier, with far more control.

I still honestly hate Microsoft for not creating a mount input option, and yanking every software hack that makes them work, on a console.

It's always bigger with us. ;)

Just watched episode 1. I honestly thought this was a drama and so I wa shocked to find a comedy. Lol

Pretty funny. I loved when Paulie Shore was saying that Romesh looked suspicious

What happened to True Detective? Woody from Cheers was great in that ...

Went off a cliff in Season 2. They had Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Marissa Tomei as the leads and it was pure shit. Vaughn tried to break typecast and play a serious character and I thought he was fine, but the plot was trash. They shelved the series after that, but I think they are in talks with Woody and Matthew McConaughey to come back and direct a third season.

It was actually Rachel McAdams but yea- they made the show a laughing stock compared to Season 1.

Taylor Kitch’s character was the only one not totally over played or came off as absurd, yet his character ultimately was totally meaningless

Rachel McAdams, Marissa Tomei...close enough. I thought the Leftovers had potential but season 2 sunk it, too.

They filmed Season 1 in Shreveport. I drove by the school where that crazy guy was mowing the grass. Creepy as hell.

Dude, season one of TD was epic and I’ve been by many of the places they filmed. Creepy AF. When that show was going on, The connection Matthew and woody had was unreal. It was a truly engaging story with characters who you really sympathized with and connected to from the beginning. You couldn’t wait for each week to show.

The antithesis to that was season two. Terrible. There were about 50 characters and no one knew what was going on. Horrible dialogue. Shitty premise to the story. You couldn’t understand a fukcing thing anyone was saying (my wife and I watched the entire thing with subtitles on—it was that bad). I really can’t think of anything nice to say about it. Am I missing anything @UCFKnight85 ?

Shreveport is a tetanus factory so it adds to the mystique of the show.

Nope that about sums it up. Season 1 was arguably one of the greatest TV seasons of any show- ever. You know a show is amazing when each monologue that MM would give in the precnct with his crushed beer cans was so interesting that people hung on every word.

The setting and the mood was just perfectly on point. MM and WH worked flawless together.

Season 2 was the inverse of all of that. Boring, stale LA, too many story lines- none of which anyone cared about. They really seemed to think that different shots of Vaughn and Ferrel drinking scotch in that shitty bar with that shitty singer was art.

Also- the killer in Season 1 (the big guy) ended up doing well for himself. He’s been in several shows and movies now, and he has a supporting cast role in Billions on Showtime. He’s also in Barry and was in the new Waco series

HBO's Sharp Objects was pretty awesome last night. Way better than I had thought.

Amy Adams plays the female version of MM's True Detective character pretty well
