Last night I took my youngest son and nephews along with my brother down to the city of Brotherly Love for the last time to see UCF play. The football games are easy, in and out on the highways and you don't have to visit the actual city of Philadelphia. Basketball games are a different story. You get off in the gentrified section of Fishtown and make your way to Temple's campus. The Arena is attached to a parking garage so it's a quick entry and in your seats. We were in line with Ithiel Horton's parents and got to talk NJ high school hoops with the dad while waiting.
We sat behind the UCF bench, which was entertaining for the kids. I don't have to say much about the game, most of you watched it. Quick start, looking good, flat stretch, comeback, take the lead and then lose at the buzzer. We've seen that story a few times this season.
My younger son is only 7. For those of you that are parents or grandparents, you can relate to the excitement level of being pretty close to the floor. It was his best night of the year. He chose to go see UCF instead of going on a snowboard trip. My older son chose the snowboard trip.
I'll share a few pictures from the game and after the game. It seemed that Coach Dawkins and assistant coach Kevin Norris had family and friends from the region to come watch the team play.
My son wanted to stick around to try and meet Taylor Hendricks. I really hope he comes back for another year because this is the biggest superstar we've had at UCF. The kids love him. Sadly, he didn't make it out but the New York, Jersey and DC players came out to visit with family and were very good to the kids. Thanked them for coming out to support. Coach Dawkins was very nice also. Took the time to chat with the kids, take a picture and apologized that they didn't get the win for the boys.
Disappointing ending but a great experience for the kids. It'll be my last time visiting Philly unless my kids have some sports tournaments there in the future - I'm ok with that. Hopefully the BIG12 tournament goes to the Garden or the Barclay's center. In the future, the closest road trip with be Morgantown.
We even got to see the ATVs and dirtbike crew wheely down Broad Street at 10:30 pm. Philly is always good for terrible fans, decent cheesesteaks and the dirtbike crews. I was hoping it was Meek on the dirtbike.
It was good to see @Knight_Light talking to Terry at halftime.
