This looks to be a really good series based on the first episode. Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson are going to be a great pairing.

Mini-review:

Disney’s Loki is getting better with each episode. Today’s and last week’s were exceptional, IMHO. It really took off when we were introduced to the Silvie /Enchantress character (love that actress) and the storyline has really gotten intriguing.

I liked Wandavision and thought the Winter Soldier was okay, but Loki is blowing them both away. I have a sneaking suspicion that this Loki miniseries is intended to set up the whole next phase of Marvel feature films.

Agreed. Today's episode covered a lot of ground and it seemed like it was all just for the sake of the post credit scene, but it was worth it.

I still am not quite sure that Loki isn't the villain. Either way, this series doesn't feel like it's going to be as anticlimactic as Falcon was.

I'm also willing to bet that Loki is Sylvies dad. That's a more reasonable twist than them being the same person and falling in love. I don't think the MCU would go down that road.

I suspect the older actor from this past episodes post-credits scene is going to play a key role in the last two episodes as ‘the old Loki from the far future.’ One thing I noticed is that he was wearing Loki’s costume from the character’s first appearance in the comic books. I also predict that the ultimate baddie is Kang, who will become ‘the Thanos‘ for the coming series of Marvel feature films.

I won't be surprised if we find out that the grandmaster is the one behind all of this. Comments made in age of ultron and the entire story arc of Ragnarok could easily dovetail into that explanation.

My money's on Kang. BTW, the show's current baddie, Ravonna Renslayer, is Kang's GF in the comics.

I think Kang is the Mephisto of this series. It's too obvious.
I could see them alluding to Kang is some way, but more as an aside. I keep going back to comments made by the grandmaster like "time works differently around here", and Loki suggesting that he and Thor could overthrow him, the melt stick being essentially the same thing as the pruning stick, the body armor worn by grandmasters guard in Ragnarok being almost the same as the TVA, etc. There are a lot of crossovers.

Every Marvel movie or series introduces the villain in act 1, act 2, or has already been introduced in an earlier movie. It has to be someone we are already aware of, so Kang is out.

Episode 5 was basically the equivalent of taking a crap in a blender, then throwing every Marvel comic magazine in, turning into it a shit-shake and throwing the thing against the wall. It is quite possibly the most pathetic attempt at fan-service I've ever seen. Totally ruined the entire series.

I'm honestly surprised by your reaction because I loved the episode. The first half was hilarious and the last half was breathtaking.

But, ultimately, like most TV series, it all depends on what happens in the season finale. (I loved Lost...until the show's lame conclusion.) If Loki can maintain the quality its shown us to-date, it will be considered, both creatively and commercially, as a big success.

I just thought it would be more storyline based. Now it just seems like they wanted to throw as many pop culture and comic book references in as humanly possible. It just feels like very lazy writing.

The episode felt entirely ‘storyline based’ to me. This episode felt like a logical follow-up to the first four.

You can describe the writing in Episode 5 in a number of ways, but to me, lazy sure as hell isn‘t one of them.
The episode included…. ** Spoilers Ahead **
— a bunch of Lokis, including a hilarious Crock Loki
— a shot of Frog Thor in a bottle
— Crock Loki biting off Campaign Loki’s hand
— The director’s crazy segways throughout the episode
— The wild imagery in Dumpster World, including the ship from the Philadelphia Experiment, the Spinx, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the ruined Avengers HQ
— A great death scene for Classic Loki
— The episode’s witty dialogue (I.e. Mobius patting Loki on the back while looking at Silvie when saying, “you were always my favorite.”
— A great set-up for the season finale (crossing my fingers the writers nail the landing.)

Non-spoiler review (um, sort of)

👍👍👍👍👍 (and it does an excellent job of setting up the next big baddie for the upcoming MCU films.)

I'm still not sure what to make of episode 6 and the series in general. That wasn't Kang, so it doesn't really set up anything for the movies, but it definitely did a great job of setting up season 2. All in all it is really well done, but that also kind of depends on what happens later. Still way too many loose ends to know for sure.

That's basically all big, expansive, movie and TV franchises today.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinions. Personally, I think we're entering into a new, post-pandemic 'golden age' of TV, especially for sci-fi and fantasy shows.

One of the revolutionary TV/movie industry advancements that's taken place in the past couple years is StageCraft that puts actors into an LED panel 'bubble' environment that can produce photo-realistic landscapes with controlled lighting and have it automatically adjust in real-time to the actor's perspective using today's game-engine technology. The effect is that the actors can actually react to their breathtaking environments (vs imagining them in a green screen room) and the quality of the product has viewers feeling like the scene they've just watched has been filmed on site.

It won't be long before the days of the old flat, fake-looking, green-screens will be gone forever
