The power of nature is absolutely amazing to me. As far as human society has come, these forces of nature still cause us so much trouble.

I couldn't even imagine how early settlers or Florida Indians managed to survive these storms. No warning, no real protection.

I would imagine the natives had something figured out on how to deal with them given this was their home for hundreds of years. The poor bastard Europeans probably had no idea what a hurricane was like and got blown away while settling the southeast US.
