I've got my eye on a S&W M&P Sport II since it has the dust cover and forward assist.

I don't need anything fancy. I like iron sights and I won't want to trick it out with anything cool.

Suggestions? Price range is ~$700.00, give or take.

^I'd love a Colt or Bushmaster but don't see the need to drop that much cash on something I'd shoot once a month. Just want to plink on paper.

I'm not a gun person, but is it wise to skimp on a rifle designed to have your face next to the firing pin?

If you just want to plink targets, there's no real difference between any of the rifles in the $600-800 range. They'll all fire and get you on target at 50 feet or whatever it is you're shooting at while at the range.

I'd rather splurge on a sick Benelli shotgun.

What if an illegal Mexican jumps the wall and ends up in my bed room, can I plink him from 50 feet?*

If someone jumps the wall from Mexico they land up in your bedroom? Do you live in a ditch? El ditcho? Los ditcho fabuloso? I don't Spanish.

While we're on the topic of guns, I'm looking for a solid carry weapon. M&P Shield 9mm catches my eye. New it's $450. Thoughts?

M&P Shield is a good carry weapon. I prefer the Walther PPS. Single stack 9mm 7 rounds. Very accurate. CZ makes a nice one too..its just a bit heavy, cant remember the model name though.

My dad built two ARs for about 6-700 each. One is the modern "scary" looking blinged out rifle that is the poster gun for libs, the other is a '60-'70s era mil spec.

I got a few ideas from another forum. I think I am going with the S&W M&P Sport II. $550.00 and a nice rifle.

Thanks.

I settled on the M&P Sport II. Bought it on Thursday and sent them a copy of my buddy's FFL. Waiting on them to ship it.

Ordered some extra mags, bore snake & brush and single-point sling from Amazon.

Now I just need some Ammo to shoot through it. My last AR-15 experience was a case of 1,000 rounds of Wolf. I hated the steel casings and the residue was a bit sticky afterwards. I have heard good things about LAX's reman Ammo. At least that is brass, right?

Thanks.

Crambone.....I just purchase the M&P also. What snake/brush & sling did you purchase?

Where did you purchase yours from? I got mine from Sportsmans Superstore.

The bore snake is from Ultimate Rifle Build and the chamber brush/bore brush is a Hoppe's. Got them both from Amazon.

Thanks.

Dude, just pay a little extra and buy Winchester or Federal stuff. That cheap Wolf ammo is so goddamn dirty; you'll be cleaning for as long a you're shooting.

I've seen deals at local stores for Federal XM855 at like $300 a 1,000.

Once you get one AR-15 your going to want more.

Why? I have one and that's fine with me. I gave my old one to my son for his 19th birthday and bought a new one for myself but I really don't have a desire for another one. I'd rather spend the money on additional pistols or new fishing rods/reels. If I were to really consider spending money on another AR, it would be on a new 10.

No way I am gonna use Wolf or Tulammo. Like I said, the cheapest I will go is reloaded but brass-only.

Having long worked for a tech company that was known for having a number of people extreme far left, there were several dinner meet-ups where I had a lot of fun at their expense. They literally could not understand, and they all ended up getting upset with me.

It wasn't until the 3rd time there was actually a fellow moderate, who was an actual, experienced gunsmith. Being a tech company, he put it to them so well after trying to contain his laughter for about 15 minutes. "You know how all of you'all arrogantly make fun PC tech-ignorant people? That's what Bryan's doing to you, and damn you guys are just as bad."

It's always funny to show kitted-up gun pictures on your phone and get liberals to comment on what should be legal and illegal. ;)

The funny part? I don't even own a gun. Never have, not sure I want the responsibility. These are the same people who call me a religious nut too.

Hot air, media-depth (i.e., 8 year-old) Liberals -- not real Liberals (the ones that have a solid foundation, I can respect those, even if I disagree) -- can be just assuming, stereotyping and otherwise broad-brush painting fools that are easily taken on a tour of their follies and hypocrisy. Their current target is "selective application" of the long-standing American concept of "reasonable accommodation," tearing down all our liberties that protects everyone.

They have a church too. Church is about blind faith. It doesn't take religion to have a church. It only takes blind faith. I love taking them on a tour of the Church of Popular Environmentalism. Even the President had his "Trees Create Smog" moment with "Global Warming Creates Particulates Which Causes Asthma" comment.

I had a lot of fellow moderates utterly watching the hot-air, media-depth liberals going on circles quickly on that one, especially after showing the EPA reports on particulate matter since the '70s (hint: reduced particulate matter actually increases global warming).

Picked up my M&P Sport II yesterday. I really like the feel of it. Very sturdy, compact and sleek. Gonna hit the range next weekend.
