The upcoming honoring of Gene McDowell at halftime Saturday, got me thinking about the breakfasts with Gene and some of the other coaches that were held on Fridays before some (every??) home games. For some reason, they were held at a hotel downtown. I went to a bunch of those, back in the day. There is where I first head the term, "Little Sisters of the Poor", which is how Gene referred to the teams that the big schools scheduled just to beat up on and improve their record. How things have changed over the last 25 or so years. Anyone on here remember those breakfasts? I believe they were during the Steve Sloan period. He ALWAYS said we would end up in the ACC. He only missed it by one letter!
