Maine has legalized assisted suicide

No problem with it. I know the Church has a major problem with this but if someone chooses to end their life because they don't want to suffer in horrible pain or have their families deal with dementia or alzheimer's, so be it.

we euthanize animals when they are in incredible pain and no ability to do better. i look at this as a humane way to end ones suffering on their own terms.

Maine is a beautiful state. What a fantastic place for someone to help me get all those fountain drinks into one cup!

I'm really torn on this one. On one hand, i don't like seeing people suffer but on the other, suicide causes others pain. I guess if all options are expended and the person is in unbearable pain then this is kind of compassionate. I would just hate to see people with depression or addiction take this step when they may be able to get through it.

Saw an article yesterday about a 17-year old girl that took this option because of the mental health issues she had following being molested as a child and raped at 14 (?). For that situation I hate it, I get the girl was in pain but I feel like she could have been helped. I want to say it was in New Zealand. Literally painful to think about this one.

For terminal patients I think they should have the option.

Thats terrible. It sucks, because we don't want to facilitate someone who wants to commit suicide but we also can't stop them. It's a topic that nobody should have a strong opinion on quite honestly because it's one of a very few that are so personal in nature.

i heard something about this. its terrible. she was far too young to be allowed to do something like this. the people that allowed this should be ashamed of themselves.

i think it happened in europe somewhere.

Man, as a Catholic it's a big no no but...I think it's good. Our family, my side, has alzheimers. Just absolutely terrible. Cannot describe the hurt....these proud people reduced to a total stranger.

Honestly though....and mom is in a facility...I am probably too selfish to do it. It wont be the church stopping me....just selfish love....but I think its good.
