MBB question

It's clear the Athletic Dept. hasn't gotten that info out well enough, not even in its player bios. Nor even who is on scholarships. A zillion changes, too. Hence all the confusion.
We scrapped or lost Jones' freshman recruiting class for this year's team and used available scholarships to stock up with transfers, all but one (a fifth year senior) of whom must sit out a year.
KL is the one who is always on top of this.
There are also two frosh walk-ons.
Three regulars from last year's team graduated and two transferred out.
We also have at least 2 returning non-scholarship players.
On bright side, B.J.'s back from injury, one regular decided not to transfer, and there's more returning players than Magic!

Good news is that BJ redshirted last year! He's only a "sophomore".

And after next season...odds are he will have earned his degree but would still have another year of eligibility and he COULD transfer and play immediately elsewhere as a 5th year transfer.

That's the only downside to a top player redshirting in hoops (many times due to transferring after 1st or 2nd year and/or due to injury)...as UCF will have to sweat that out as good teams will probably try and contact him following his redshirt junior year.

He was rookie of the year in the AAC and quarterbacked the team. He's lost his baby fat and is stronger. As a frosh, he had to change roles from a scorer to a passer and floor general, and that was hard for him (Jones even stopped letting him bring the ball up court) so he could alternate at shooting guard. He's had a year to improve those skills.

Scholarship eligible player for this year: (Basically just 7 players)
BJ Taylor, 1-2Guard, Redshirt Soph
Matt Williams 2-3 Guard, Redshirt Senior
AJ Davis, 1-3 Guard/Wing, Redshirt Junior
Tacko Fall, Center, Soph
Tanksley Efianayi, 3-4 Wing, Senior
Chad Brown 4-5 Forward/Center Soph (will have to spell Tacko)
Nick Banyard, 4 Forward, Redshirt Senior (5th year transfer from Illinois State)

Scholarship players that might end up redshirting for entire year:
McSpadden who tore his ACL in early summer...out for at least till mid/late Dec...but odds are, will miss entire season.

Ceasar Dejesus, Guard, Freshmen...not sure if he has been cleared by NCAA Clearinghouse. (Went to Mt Zion Prep School after HS). If he can play this year...that would be HUGE...same if McSpadden can come back just before conf play starts on New Year's Eve.

Those on scholarship that are redshirting due to transferring in:

Terry Allen, Guard: Transferred from Drexel
Dayon Griffin, Guard, Transferred from La Tech
Aubrey Dawkins, Guard, Transferred from Michigan (might be able to get off scholarship & free it up in future years due to free tuition clause for dependents in many HC contracts)
Rokas Ulvydas, 4-5 Forward/Center, Transferred from Texas Tech

Walk-ons that will most likely be forced to play due to foul trouble, injury, etc...

Djordjije Mumin, Guard, Junior
Brock Stephenson, Guard, Freshmen

Not sure if eligible:
Nathan Laing...Redshirt Junior from Jacksonville State (believe walk-on)...might have already earned his degree in just 3 years at Jacksonville State, which would make him eligible to pay...just not sure if he is at this time.

Thanks, KL. Brandon said earlier this month that Dejesus is enrolled here, but not eligible to play (yet?). He was the recruit I was referring to a while back. Hope it happens. Here's a teaser photo from Sept 29th:

Does the "transfer down" to a lower power school applicable here?

Donnie did a lot of this when he came to UCF. There was half a bench full of ineligible transfers at one point. One never did play after sitting out before moving on. Since NCAA gutted 4-year scholarships, there's been a lot more transferring. Also, with basketball (vs. football), coaches decide by late in the freshman year whether you're ever gonna play; new coaches assess talent long before the next season begins, to give players a chance to transfer.

What year did UCF have 6-7 scholarship players sitting out due to transfer rules?

Believe Dawkins using 4 scholarships on transfers that have to sit out this season is the largest number any UCF coach has ever had.

The bench, as in the non-starters. So half the bench is 4, unless you count non-playing walk ons.

Ok...what year did Jones or even Speraw use 4 scholarships in one class to sit out redshirt transfers in the same year?
