Knights win 68-66. Thank God for the made free throws, too, because Tulane made a three pointer beyond half court at the buzzer.
Yeah nice shot. 5th in conference now.
Unless the Knights go on a run in the conference tournament, we probably won't get a bid in the dance, but.......there is no shame in getting a high bid to the NIT.
Lucky they were playing Tulane today. 34 of 60 field goal attempts from 3. That’s not a good way to thrive long term. They had a foul to give with 15 seconds left and up by 3, and never utilized it. They sleep-walked through most of that game. You’re not always going to be able to turn “it” on for a few minutes to pick up wins.
Just have to be top 3 in conference and probably play in CCG in tournament. We are 5th now.
Tulane is much improved this year. Beat Memphis, @ Cincinnati, @ Wichita State, tie game with SMU with one minute remaining. Agree that the Knights will have to pick it up going forward if they want to dance.
Take care of business at Wichita State and then win a big game against #10 Houston next Sat and we'll be back in the NCAA conversations. But have to win both. And that's a big ask with this Jekyll and Hyde team.
Yep, they were very athletic and well coached. We beat em because we got hot from 3 late in the game. In this case, a win's a win and not looking forward to playing them at their place.
UCF had 60 shot attempts. 34 of them were 3-pt attempts. So ~57% of our shot attempts were from behind the arc.
That works perfect if you have Dennis Scott, circa 1990 on your team. But we don't.
I see what you meant. That’s basketball now. No one really feeds bigs anymore. Even 4s can shoot outside.

I’m not concerned about how many perimeter shots we take. Like others have noted, that’s the way the game is played now (AAU, HS, NCAA, NBA). Our perimeter shooters are going to be better than our opponents on most nights.
But what you can’t do is 1) turn the ball over carelessly and 2) lose the foul battle.
We have as much experience on our roster as any team in the country (Perry, Mahan, Diong, Fuller Jr, Green Jr, Walker). The unforced turnovers are completely unacceptable, and they’re happening too often. And you absolutely can’t keep putting your opponent in the bonus midway through every half. Free throws are the highest percentage attempt on the floor.
I can live with off nights shooting from the floor. I can’t live with the high turnover numbers and the lazy defense. Not from a veteran team like UCF.

Come tourney time , experience is key. We are starting to gel together. Coming back from 16 point deficits helps for tourney time as well. I still like our chances on any night if 3s are falling. Kansas was losing to K State by 17 the other night and won as well. Even the blue bloods get lazy at times.
