Scott Frost isn't wasting any time getting to work recruiting.

The new UCF head coach began issuing offers on Thursday night. The first one to surface was given to Homestead (Fla.) South Dade running back Jawon Hamilton, who recently committed to Miami.

"I received a tweet from (UCF recruiting assistant Ryan) Callaghan and he said to call," Hamilton said. "He answered the phone and said they were all just watching my film right now. He's been talking to me for the longest time. I thought they were going to offer me, but they had been waiting on who was going to be the head coach. He gave Coach Frost the phone and the first thing he says was, 'I wish I knew about you at Oregon! If we knew about you there we would have offered you there too. Wow. You're the No. 1 running back on our recruiting board right now. We need you.' He also put me on with another coach, Kevin Smith. It was great."

Frost bringing the Oregon offense to UCF was music to Hamilton's ears.

"He was explaining about how all the past running backs did at Oregon," Hamilton said. "How many running backs went to the pros. He thinks I'd be a great fit in that scheme and so do I."

An official visit is definitely in the works and Frost said the coaches would try to visit him soon.

"I will call them back on when is the best time for that official visit," Hamilton said. "I will discuss that with my mom. I have never been up there, but I've heard about it a lot. I'm definitely going to give UCF a close look. Coach Frost, coming from Oregon, it got my attention."

Frost isn't the only one recruiting Hamilton. Miami-Gulliver Prep wide receiver and UCF commit Dontay Mayfield is also putting in a good word.

"I'm texting Dontay now," Hamilton said. "He said, 'I want you to come up there with me. Let's make an immediate impact.' He's a good friend of mine."

A previous commit to FIU, Hamilton flipped to Miami a couple weeks back. That staff has also seen a transition with former Georgia coach Mark Richt now taking over in Coral Gables.

"They came to my house last night, Coach Ice and Kareem Brown. Everything went great."

He visits FAU this weekend and has Miami (Jan. 22) and Kansas (Jan. 29) on the books for January.

"The most important thing to me is education," Hamilton said. "My mom plays a very important role in wherever I will go. She wants what's best for me. It doesn't matter how far it is. She wants me to be comfortable."

Despite the visits, Hamilton did stress that his status hasn't changed with Miami.

"I'm still committed to Miami," Hamilton said. "I'm going to take these visits just to see. Anything can happen. But I am 100 percent committed to Miami."

Hamilton, who possesses 4.4 speed, rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior.
