Wow!! Military has taken over and shut down both major airports in Istanbul and believe Turkey's President has fled the country.

No clue if this military group (not sure if it includes all of their Army, Air Force, etc...), will be successful...but coming off the terrorist attack just recently in Istanbul...this is just crazy.

Reports now say Military has enforced Marshall Law.

It's almost 1 AM in Istanbul so it won't be daylight for quite sometime.

Other reports now a show of force from the Air Force...but no one knows which side they are on.

This could jeopardize (at least momentarily) US Air Force use of a military base in Southern Turkey that the US has used in their fight against ISIS.

If Erdogan ends up being removed this is good for USA. He is almost solely responsible for becoming less secular. He's a hard lining conservative Muslim that has really been pushing that agenda.

It appears that the overnight coup has failed...as thousands of military personnel surrendered to law enforcement and other parts of the military.

At least 160 people were killed...citizens took to the streets and basically forced tank commanders out of their vehicles as it looks like many in the military didn't believe in this coup and/or didn't want to fire on their own people.

Turkish President made a public appearance/speech in the morning and now all or most TV networks are back on air.

He must be in the situation room telling the military commanders what to do.

No, I was just enjoying the typical idiocy from people like you, declaring that it's a "good thing" for a democratically elected NATO government to be over thrown by a faction of their military. And once again, somehow insanely blaming the internal shit storm in Turkey on Obama.

This is why you like Trump- you just like morons who are willing to say and do anything despite the rule of law. Fox News has told you that Erdogan is an evil Islamist, therefore violating the rule of law, the Constitution, and the democratic process of civilian rule is A-OK!

Nevermind the fact, of course, that our own Federal law requires the US to have no cooperation with countries that are ruled by military leaders via a Coup. Woops- there would go our airbase in southern Turkey and there would go a lot of our capability to bomb ISIS.

But hey- do stupid shit and ask questions later, amirite?

Turkish President has grounded airspace surrounding the airbase in Southern Turkey that US Forces have used for much of their air attacks against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Hope that airspace opens up again soon.

Pretty crazy that the news station go over run and had to report via Facebook just to get the information out there. Must have been one crazy night. I hope things settle down over there.

They're now purging over 10,000 people from their posts, allegedly torturing people suspected in the coup, demanding a return to the death penalty (which would prevent them from EU membership), and surely will be arresting thousands of more people for offenses that may be total bullshit. It'll get a lot worse.

And in between all of this is ISIS on their border, Assad on their border, and a raging war with the PKK.

So if Turkey decides they want to reinstate the death penalty for those who committed treason in the coup, they wont be able to join the EU? Tough choice for Turkey considering there are a number of countries talking about leaving.
