Mississippi Councilman:"Throw bricks, bottles and rocks at police"

Man...it must suck to be a cop in so many areas of the country these days....when Councilman can tell his residents on TV,"Let's get rocks; let's get bricks, and let's get bottles,"Stokes told CNN affiliate WJTV. "And we'll start throwing them, and then they won't come in here anymore."

Well, it was the safest year on record for the police. And deadliest for police-on-citizen violence.

Well, it was the safest year on record for the police.

Sadly, at least 124 Law Enforcement Officers were killed in 2015 (at least 52 by violent acts)...which was a higher number than both 2013 and 2014.

Loss of 1 LEO in the line of duty is too much.

2015's number is only higher if you count the deaths of K9 dogs (which your 124 number includes, in addition to many others who are not part of the normal US police force.
Your violent acts number includes officers who crashed during pursuits, drunk drivers, etc, not typically considered "violent" acts (no harm was intended, accidental in nature, perhaps with negligence)

Loss of any life anywhere is too much. LEOs are not more valuable then others. Remember, they were supposed to take an oath to defend us just like those in the military. The job description SHOULD make it more dangerous then other jobs, but other jobs like construction workers and truck drivers remain much more dangerous, less appreciated, and paid less.

For some yes...but for a lot other truck drivers/construction workers no...as plenty of them do very, very well in regards to salaries. (Believe Walmart Truck Drivers "average" $72,000 per year). Let alone specialized truck drivers (Hazmat, oversided, ice, specialty cargo, long-haul, etc...) can make up to $50k in just a few months. (Easy 6 figures).

Average cop makes just under $49K per year.

Average truck driver is $40k
Average construction worker is $35k
Average cop is $59k

And those truck drivers making more literally do not go home at night. They have to sleep in their truck or a motel every night. Its a 24 hour job unlike the others. Little to no time to raise a family. Cops have no issues like that.

For every "violent" death of a cop (including the officer K9 dogs, drunk driving, etc), cops violently killed at least 24 human beings and acted as judge, jury, and executioner. We do not keep track of the dogs killed by police.

I love your inclusion of "violently". Is there a "non violent" way to kill another human? Yawn.

You're presenting the ultimate No Shit argument here- cops kill more people than people kill cops. I guess this saddens you or something, but the entire profession revolves around training to not be killed. This is because cops are faced with gunfire or violent situations on patrol routinely. Your numbers also don't say anything about many how many times cops are shot at, attacked, or shot non-fatally by assailants.

Sure there are many cases of lethal force used that warrant review, if not prosecution. But in the grand scheme of things those numbers are small. Cops end up killing people, most of the time, because assholes are doing things that warrant being shot.

And then the public can spin things like saying a drugged up maniac, attempting to ram cops with his car, was "unarmed" yet shot anyways. And get up in arms about it.
