I have three more classic UCF games posted:

UCF vs. Troy State (1988): This a partial recording of the 1988 Troy State/UCF game. Not many UCF games were televised back then and even fewer have survived. This is the "Noise Penalty" game in which the crowd of 30K+ was penalized for being "too loud".

UCF vs. Southern Connecticut (1988): Before the "Civil Conflict", there was this game from 1988 on Homecoming Weekend.

UCF Knights @ Alabama Crimson Tide (2000): This is the infamous UCF win in Tuscaloosa from back in 2000 that has been a focal point in UCF's five year ongoing troll job of the Tide, the SEC, and college football as a whole.

The noise game was insane, couldn’t hear ourselves think in the stands and my ears were still buzzing in class Monday.

I don’t remember us getting a penalty but Troy St got several because they couldn’t get plays off.
I was 12 years old and watched it on home on Cablevision, lol. If I remember right, Cablevision may not have televised this game live, but rather on tape delay. If memory serves, they had a "community access" type channel and they showed this game randomly during the week, usually late at night.

Can someone explain the noise penalty? I thought I saw something one time that said the opponent asked for a noise penalty but ended up getting a delay of game themselves instead (ie: that there was no actual penalty for noise). Maybe that was a different game? I can't find that now. The sentinel article just says the officials stopped the game 7 times for noise, but doesn't mention a penalty.

Is there actually a rule against excessive noise in lower divisions of football? Is there a dB threshold written down somewhere?

Haven’t been able to find other than anecdotal stuff…gist I gathered is a rule that basically said teams had the right to be able to hear signals (not a specific dB limit) and play would be stopped if they couldn’t and penalties could be assessed if they couldn’t.

Now, the rules about noise are limited to Limits on artificial / piped in / band noise such as no music during live play.

Seems like the NFL had a rule and got rid of a rule themselves.

Troy St asked the officials to quiet the crowd down on nearly every play, and the officials kept saying no, run your play….and then Troy St started having delay of game penalties called against them.

This just wasn’t something Div II teams knew how to deal with. At the time, our 33,000 attendance shattered the old record. This all started because Troy St ran up the score the year before and acted like douchebags….a Div II version of 2007 usf.

Referee discretion?
