I'm always amused by events on Facebook that people try to out do each other for. Mothers day apparently has taken a life of its own in this regard with everyone ttryingto out-love other people and their mom.

The best is that most mom's of people I know are more than likely not on Facebook.

Anyway do what makes you happy but man I just find it amusing.

@JayOnrait: Everyone on social media: "Happy Mothers Day to the Greatest Mom Ever!"
Our Moms: "Why isn't my landline ringing?"

This goes for birthday's as well, to an extent.

"Hey I haven't called you in months but Happy Birthday! See? We're still such good friends that I don't even call you on your birthday."

Seriously, what is with the "straight" dudes on FB trying to outdo the chicks in this department? The message I get from those postings is that deepest part of their personality secretly wants to be a 15 year old girl.

I tried being snarky and funny, and posted about the awkwardness of being wished a HMD by a well-meaning stranger, when you don't have kids. Got replies from those not seeing the humor. After some said get over it (no, you lighten up), then got a rant from someone who apparently can't have kids.

Lesson: don't try to be funny on FB. You might hurt someone's feelings. :/

Eh, I enjoyed seeing everyone post about their mom and pictures from their Mother's Day brunches together, the tributes to moms that are no longer alive, the celebrations of the single dads who also had to be "mom", the celebration of the non-mom women who helped raise a person, the proud same-sex couples who are together first-time moms, etc.
Yes, there are shitty moms out there but I don't see how celebrating the good ones detracts from those that had to suffer through bad ones. And while I'm sure some of the people are insincere on FB, I thought most were genuine and touching. It's also fun seeing how visually similar to their parents some people are.
I'm sure we can petition for a Bitter Grump Day though, anyone want to lead the charge?

im not saying stuff is insincere...but you can see the contest taking place. thats what makes me eye-roll. People one-up each other.

"Oh you love your mom with 1 sentence?....I LOVE MY MOM WITH 2 PARAGRAPHS!!"

"Oh you posted a picture? THats nice...HERE'S MY FCUKING COLLAGE, BITCH!!!"

It's obvious how many people try to one-up the previous posters to stand out. It's a social media thing that has gotten pretty obvious. Now people may not be doing this on purpose, but its absolutely taking place on trying to "out-like" other Mothers Day posts.

Ok I'll totally agree with that, Dingy even saw someone talk about how they got all these amazing qualities from their mom and it ended up sounding like a 3-paragraph ode to how great she thinks she is, using her mom as an excuse to post.

I tell my mother that I love her by physically going to see her and spending time with her.

However, I failed to post something to Facebook, so clearly I don't care about her.

It's like the yearly sum up holiday letter you use to get before Facebook. Every year we would get at least one letter, three pages long summarizing that year for some obnoxious family that had to share their kids achievements. It usually started out with an honor roll, than an all star game and ending up with some dumb ass vacation no one else cared about. Now there is Facebook where they can do this crap everyday. I really don't care about your eight year old daughters soccer game.
