I waited too long to see the signs. GOL was a good coach and then became the lamest of all lame ducks. He stopped filling vacant positions with the best available talent and treated jobs like gifts to incompetent friends of his. He brought in trash that couldn't recruite or identify talent unlike many of his previous hires. He left the program to die on the vine and he didn't seem to care because he was on his way out. I argued against many coach haters because I was wrong. Maybe I just couldn't believe that a coach who so recently put together a BCS winning product could turn the program into a laughingstock so quickly. It just didn't seem possible.

I think it is best to thank O'leary and move on. I guess an implosion had to happen (and it did) to help us move on. I guess the story is that O'leary really wanted to retired after the Fiesta Bowl but was convinced to stay and help on the transition. That transition obviously failed. 2013 was a "Season To Remember", 2015...eh...one to forget...

I like what Danny White said here:

“I also want to congratulate and thank coach George O’Leary for the work he did here in building one of the nation’s most formidable college football programs,” White said. “The success that’s been had (and) the foundation that’s been laid is remarkable. It allows me now to sell a job that I think is very attractive in college football circles.
“This is an institution that’s going places very quickly, and it’s come a long way in a short period of time.”

With that said...BEAT DUH*BULLS...and Go Knights!

Thank you Jason for the apology and taking the lead. I'm really surprised that @Knight_Light, @SCKnight and @USFMike haven't done the same. I hope that we soon have a coach that we can all rally around. I am very excited about the future. Go Knights! Let's beat UWCF!!!

I love our Knights guys but lets not get too excited about the USF game. Hopefully our players are fired up for it but I'm not getting my hopes up much. USF is a vastly improved team.

Why does anybody have to apologize to anybody on here? It's a place where you write your opinion, and hopefully provide some facts as well. If you're looking for validation in any way, shape, or form in life from a message board that is sad and pathetic. Is somebody going to put up a thread for each season we kicked @ss so that Firm can apologize to all of us for each of those? No. Look, it's pretty simple to understand and see if you've watched sports for a long time and understand how the business side operates. The staff got poached and all he could hire were people desperate for a job. If that 2013 staff was still in place I think things would be vastly different. We would still be bad this year but we wouldn't be 0-fer. No "up-and-coming" coach was going to sign up to be on a staff that could turnover in the next year or two, and they'd have to potentially look for a job again. Coaching staffs need continuity to be successful. If you want to lay blame lay it on Hitt. He should have let GOL ride off into the sunset after 2013, and while we're standing on the top of the mountain, hiring a new coach/staff. Nobody should fault another person for taking a paycheck to support their family (and when I say family I mean your extended family, and possibly some friends as well; In the case of this type of money it is generational wealth..."Legacy" as they call it). I'm certain most people on here would have just balked at earning another ~3.6 million or whatever he came close to making for doing what they love to do...that's sarcasm.

Because it is the right thing to do.

We're gonna get murdered by USF. NO doubt about that. At least there is only one more game and we can put a fork in this season.

so that Bianchi article confirmed that GOL had the option to finish out the season like Beamer but he refused bc he wanted to wait to announce his retirement after the last game which would have hurt the Program even more with the amount of openings. Not surprising he would go out that way

Lesson to be learned here about the importance of timing. Hitt is smelling like a rose now but he is the one who begged GOL to stay when it was obvious that the Fiesta Bowl was his last hurrah.

I'm still not sure if it was all GOL's shortcomings or the loss of our two coordinators that hurt us the most. Not only has the performance been sub-par this season but the play calling on both sides of the ball has been unbelievably bad. Understood that the buck stops with the head dude but Stanbury who left and Hitt have some skin in this bad season as well. This is why I like the new A.D. He understands being responsible for his hires. GOL was in total denial this season of how bad it had gotten. Age...

Amen! Excellent post. The old man left us high and dry. Got lucky last year. We have zero talent on this team. Folks, we are now back to BEFORE the Daunte Culpepper day. We are basically back to Div II under Gene McDowell and maybe not even that good.

Good point!

Hitt also made the mistake of making GOL AD.

It's not that bad. We have a history of winning championships, good facilities, improved conference and an OCS.

The reason why I need to apologize is because I talked a lot of crap. Time for me to man up.

This thread reminds me of today's wrestling promo segments instead of discussing football topics.

I guess as part of the audience i should respond to Mattropolis intterupting Jason's apology by doing this.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:[pfftt][pfftt][pfftt]
