My take on the GOL, AD-COACH (after hearing him on 740)

IMHO, and I understand this is basic, but, here are some notes:
-Acquiring or Signing of a new head coach is very disruptive to a program in most cases.
-GOL takes over AD position now because he is a high profile name/figure and we need this to keep stability at UCF football and the UCF Athletics in General.
-We need this stability at the moment for recruiting, ticket sales, P5 acceptance, football, (did I miss any?)
-From the 740 conversation this morning, it seems GOL is setting himself up for life after Coaching.
-If GOL stays at UCF as the AD and we choose a head coach (in a year or so) from within, the ship is still in relatively smooth water. (Because we are running football the GOL way)
-GOL gets UCF into a P5 (huge personal accomplishment for him) and works closely with the new head Football coach to keep the machine running smoothly.
-UCF gets into a P-5 and does well for a few years...GOL retires and becomes a legend at UCF.
-Some other notes...GOL gets UCF basketball and Baseball on the right track within 2 years.
-The landscape of college football is changing. If conferences are constantly trying to keep up with other conferences $$, they plan for the future (like businesses etc). UCF keeps growing and getting better at everything it does (and we're in Orlando)....so take us now or somebody else will and that somebody else will have success with us.

Thoughts, Corrections, Opinions?

yeah I'm thinking he is going to transition as full time AD after this year....the only drawback will be the guy he hires, after a good season will leave right away for a more high profile job...thats the good thing about GOL, he didn't leave after good seasons.

That's a good point Pitt. He did stick with us, but also, we stuck with him through some bad times as well :)

That's because no one wanted him.

I highly doubt that "no one" wanted him. Yeah he was/is older than many candidates for most jobs and he did have issues with his past resume. However, he's been coaching here for 10 years (I think) and I'm sure many programs have called or been interested in him over those past years. Heck, I'm sure USF would hire him now just in hope to get 3 years out of him. He's a great coach and can turn a program around! Maybe not Alabama, lsu, Ohio st candidate, but In my opinion, many schools would have been interested.

We already know the guy he's going to hire is none other than Brent Key, and we'll lock him into a 5 year deal with a super large buyout. Any new coach should be given a 5 year deal IMHO. Have to respect Mississippi State - they were suffering with Sly Croom, but gave him the full 5 years to get it done. Didn't work out, and they moved on. Unlike the yo-yo's at USF who are playing coaching roulette. Look what that's done for them.

he was hired as coach of NOTRE DAME.... If he didnt put the BS on his resume, he would have been wanted by alot of programs...even P5.

Croom had to coach while under crippling sanctions and then was forced out. There's a good documentary about his time there, 30 for 30.
