The NBA ran into myriad problems by opening one of the academies in Xinjiang, a police state in western China where more than a million Uighur Muslims are now held in barbed-wire camps. American coaches were frequently harassed and surveilled in Xinjiang, the sources said. One American coach was detained three times without cause; he and others were unable to obtain housing because of their status as foreigners.

A former league employee compared the atmosphere when he worked in Xinjiang to "World War II Germany."

The NBA brought in elite coaches and athletic trainers with experience in the G League and Division I basketball to work at the academies. One former coach described watching a Chinese coach fire a ball into a young player's face at point-blank range and then "kick him in the gut."

"Imagine you have a kid who's 13, 14 years old, and you've got a grown coach who is 40 years old hitting your kid," the coach said. "We're part of that. The NBA is part of that."

Just remember - NBA players are the utmost Woke and care deeply about injustice.

You realize the NBA is a business and players are employees of that business right? If you are going to rage post at least do it about the commissioner and owners who actually control the league.

You’re so right, these players don’t stand to personally profit at all from these Chinese endeavors. So sorry, terrible mistake.

So is your point that players shouldn’t speak out about injustices against African Americans at the hands of the police because there are other injustices out of their control occurring? I don’t think a player is telling a Chinese coach to treat their players that way.

GDP down 33%, largest ever recorded drop.

Sitting POTUS says presidential election should be delayed.

85 makes a thread whining about black NBA players.

Im pretty sure I’m saying that players who are profiting from a nation that is running a Holocaust and whose employer is running labor camps, should not aid in suppressing others from speaking out about that place, exactly as every NBA player did back in January.

Especially when positioning themselves as fighting oppression everywhere. Easy enough right? Unless of course you’re shilling for China.

I hadn't realized how bad the Chinese crackdown on the Uighur Muslims was until this John Oliver report. If you're interested in the subject, this is worth your time:

I was aware. Basically concentration camps complete with the harvesting of organs from people while alive.

Bigly good market for the NBA
