Nebraska dual-threat QB Noah Vedral commits to UCF

Don't get too excited about his track times.
It's his hurdles win that's more fascination.
(the snarky reply would have been "his time is better than anybody on UCF's track team"; but I'm trying to cut down on snarkiness)

A High School QB from Nebraska? Has there ever been a good one?

trick question...right? ahhhh...how about Scott Frost from Wood River HS...he only lead U of Nebraska to the national title, was a Johnny Unitas award finalist and drafted in the 3rd round by the Jets....

there's a lot of HS QB's who dream about that kind of success......that said, realistically, this kid appears to be a lot like Frost....second generation athlete, parent(s) played for University of Nebraska...maybe Frost is looking in the mirror when he sees this kid...hopefully he has as much success....

I find the facial expressions that QBs make while throwing a football to be funny. Blake use to stick his tongue out the side of his mouth.

I got a laugh out of SublimeKnight's humor.

Brandon headlining the article with "Frost goes to Nebraska..."
... not so much.
#palpitations

300meter hurdle champ against a bunch of slow Nebraskians. That will come in handy for us. He can hurdle all those defenders our revamped O-line pancakes. Wait..., isn't the field only 100 yards???

No.*

We have had 2 QBs from Florida who have thrown 30+ TDs in the NFL in less than 20 years.

Ok...what about all the other FLA QB's UCF has had that never threw 30 + TD's in college...heck, most never threw 10, let alone 5.

Great players can be found anywhere...but yes, because FLA has sooooo many FL HS players...there will always be great ones somewhere...but there will also be scores of players that never come close to reaching their potential.

What I'm saying is that the odds of this kid being a star QB is very low. I'll stand by that.

That's basically same odds as almost every other college player. Heck, that was similar odds to Blake Bortles, even before Godfrey's star Freshmen season.

That's why most teams sign 6 QB's every 3-4 years as you hope ONE can be good...and maybe even a star....but the odds for most are low.

Recruited like 20 years ago and played DB in the NFL. I'll stick with Oviedo and Florida overall.

Since UCF doesn't play in the NFL, yet, who gives a damn how many Nebraska QBs played in the NFL. The answer's 2 by the way, a half century ago. If this guy ends up playing DB in the NFL after he leads UCF "...to the national title, was a Johnny Unitas award finalist and drafted in the 3rd round" then I'll be happy.

Whooooa cowboy. Slow down just a tad. Getting a little ahead of yourself. Chances of any of the above happening is slim to none. None is pretty much pulling ahead of slim after reading your ownpost. I'll put my money on any other Florida (even Hawaii) recruit and most likely this will be a bust

If he's the second coming of Scott Frost, that means he'll be on the team 2 years and then transfer somewhere else to win a national title. Also he'll become the OC for one of our conference rivals, but struggle to ever beat us.

Ha. Our 2 QBs weren't exactly chopped liver in college either. You know what I'm trying to say. Heck, almighty Nebraska isn't recruiting QBs from Nebraska, so what does that tell you? It tells me that Frost was a rarity.

There are are NFL Hall of Famers from most every state in the Union. Thus, any talent scout who makes his decisions solely based upon the zip code or region of a prospect's home would be worthless.

A healthier discussion would assess a QB's throwing motion, footwork, size, speed, arm strength, fluency of technique and even statistics. In viewing the films while reviewing these aspects of Vedral, I find that he would be at least a solid QB candidate in the Frost style offense, and possibly an excellent performer.

Right on!! Nebraska is our new fertile recruiting ground. Frost just reinvented the wheel. Let's hit up North Dakota long and hard before most schools like Alabama and Ohio State realize that it's a state in the U.S. We stole this one, so look out!

Assessment of location without discussion of talent and skills- worthless.

It's called competition. Football in Nebraska at the skilled positions isn't near what it is in Florida. It's a different world. If you're talking offensive lineman, then OK. There's very little speed in that state, so the guys going to look like a superstar.

I just pulled up his track times. Runs. 50.0 400meters. Not bad for a QB, but 2nd in the state?? His short hurdle times are very average.

I've always said recruit wherever a successful prospect can be secured, whether it be Hawaii, Nebraska, Canada, etc.

Murray came from NY. Aaron Hernandez and Dwight Freeney came from Connecticut. Daryn Colledge came out of Alaska. Darren McFadden out of Arkansas. Montell Owens came out of Delaware. Will Montgomery from Maine.

There are good players around. We are allowed to go outside of Orlando if needed. There are players who want to get of the cold northeast, but there is a limited number of D-1 talent in the region. Nothing wrong making Florida a priority but looking everywhere too.

This is true, but I wouldn't have wasted a precious scholarship offer on him. Geez, no one else is seeing what we see in him? Frost's system is unique, but there are other programs that recruit similar types of QBs. Maybe Frost's Nebraska ties grabbed a diamond in the rough, Let's see what happens.

Ok...so why don't you become a HC and then you can decide who to give or not give a scholarship offer.

Unlike you, Frost actually has followed this QB's progress over the past year or two and even coached him at his past Oregon camp...so again, unlike you, Frost has actually seen him up close and personal...and Frost knows, if someone has tools and is teachable to improve...they could have a chance at future success (zero guarantee of success, just like any other recruit).

NOTE: DYK that Frost's former Heisman Winning QB only had offers from Memphis and then Oregon when he committed...and he still committed to Oregon even though the school already had commitment a higher rated QB, 4 star, Jarred Randall from Hollywood, FL and some kid named Johnny Manziel from TX.

Look now at those 2:

Manziel is on skid row...and Randall ended up signing with LSU...went JUCO route...then to Arizona...and ended his career not playing a down in UA's bowl game. (Finished UA with career stats of 47-98 for 513 yds).

Why not? GOL some years recruited nearly as many from Georgia as from Florida, with at least two of our best RBs from NY. Both of those states is what he knew.

Wow. that the worst comparison ever. First of all, there were others involved in the recruiting of Mariota (Mark Helfrich, so get your facts straight) and Manziel was a very very successsful college QB, especially early on. Won a Heisman as well, until it went to his head. BTW, Frost didn't recruit or pass on him. He passed on Oregon. So.., again you are factually incorrect.

Head coaches never made a mistake and miss on a scholarship offer??
Never has happened??? Who really knows. Could be a complete Nebraska bias thing. Look dude, there are very few successful QBs from Nebraska. Until he starts or stars at UCF or Frost proves himself, I can like or dislike whoever I want.

Why don't I become a head coach?? Umm, because I'm a fan???? Sounds like you should be a coach.

Ummm.., why else?? Maybe because I have a great job and make decisions that are far more important to people's lives than recruiting football players and discussing it on a free chat board. It's football dude. It's entertainment. I'm a fan. I can like or dislike whatever I want. Get this. Fans are right, until they aren't and then take none of the heat or responsibility. If I like Florida recruits, and they have panned out for this team, and do in the future, I can like them.

Murray was the best player in the whole state and Stanback never did anything that was sustained. A few games. NY probably has better football and players at the skilled positions than Nebraska. There are literally 10 times as many people and probably 5-10 times as many players. Georgia recruits are fine. They play quality football there.
