I have a son that will be graduating high school next year. He is applying to get into both UCF's Honor program and also FSU's honors program.

I graduated from UCF with 3 different degrees and his mother went to FSU for 2 years then transferred to UCF and finished her degree. So I am a DIEHARD UCF fan. My wife is big on UCF also, but loves FSU as well having attended there.

I have been taking him to UCF games for years and he loves the school. Here is the kicker, we visited FSU this past weekend and toured the Honors Dorm and attended a tour session. We were VERY impressed. The dorms are nice and centrally located and the honors program is run in a manner were they really look after their students.

I wanted to hate on FSU, but I can't. I was impressed. He is going to major in Prelaw/International Relations.

We are going to be taking him on a preview/tour in a couple weeks to UCF. We are familiar with the awesome campus and all it has to offer, but I am going to be fighting an uphill battle to put UCF back in front. One of the selling points is that we live only an hour away from UCF versus almost 5 hours from FSU. I am really hoping the Honors college shows us something special because I want him to be at UCF for selfish reasons.

Outside of taking him by the resort pool, what other things can I use to show him (and my wife), why UCF is the place for him to be?

Thanks for any help.

Does your son want to go to law school at FSU as well?

I know sometimes it can be looked down upon if you get your BS/BA from the same school you get your masters degree at. I think people like to see you were exposed to differing opinions or philosophies. Im not sure if this same thinking applies to law school or not. Might be something for your son to consider.

Yes he does. Both UCF and FSU undergrads offer a 3+3 program with FSU Law School that allows the student to have their 1st year of Law School classes count as their 4th year of undergrad.

So he could have the benefit at either school. I agree, I like the possibility of him having an experience at both schools.

Thanks for the insight.

I live here in Tallahassee. I went to FSU law school. There isn't any prejudice when it comes to staying at FSU for law school. It doesnt help you either. Good grades and good test scores are all that matters. Let me repeat. Good grades and good test scores are all that matters. If you don't hit certain numbers, they don't even review your application -- or so I have been told.

You are correct. They actually informed us of this fact at the FSU Prelaw Advising course. They went as far as directly saying for the student to get their undergrad in something that they are very good / interested in so that they can finish with a high GPA. Don't major in something difficult if you are not already very strong in that discipline and risk lower scores.

And then do well on LSAT.

That is all that matters.

Does anyone have any experience with the honors program at UCF?
