Mark Bladschun/Jersey Guy:
The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots are considering extending their sphere of influence in college football.
According to sources familiar with the process, Patriot officials are in ongoing discussions with representatives from the American Athletic Conference about bringing a bowl game to Gillette Stadium, perhaps as soon as next season, although the window for creating another bowl game for 2015 is rapidly closing.
The move was initiated by AAC officials who were miffed when one of their bowl eligible teams, Temple, did not find a landing spot in the 39 bowl games that are currently on the college football schedule.
