Well with the new possible developments going on with the power conferences and the conference championship games I guess BYU and us are screwed in terms of getting into the big 12.I was thinking BYU is not going back to the Mountain West Conference. Why don't we invite them and Boise State into the American and include them in our East and West divisions. They would be in the West division of course and it would look something like this.

West Boise State BYU Tulsa SMU Houston Memphis and Tulane. The last five schools are within 500 miles of each other and BYU and Boise State could be travel partners.

Meanwhile the East would look like this.

East UCF USF U Conn Temple Navy Cincinnatti East Carolina. The last five schools are within 500 miles of each other and again us and USF would be the East travel partners.

There are at least 7 very good football teams in this group and you know the American is trying to get into the power 5. I think this is a great idea. Even the conference name would fit because it would cover East and West parts of the country. What do you all think?

Boise wont join the AAC. They have a sweetheart deal with the MWC where they receive more money than all the other teams. I am sure the AAC has a standing offer with BYU too but they are still holding out for Big XII/PAC.

Been there done that......the Big East tried this with Boise State and SDSU and if fell apart.

Never will happen, the AAC television contract is garbage and wouldn't attract BYU, Boise State or any Mountain West school to join.

BYU isn't happening. They make $6 million off their own tv network vs $2 million for us.

All those scenarios are unrealistic based on what we've seen so far. BYU can and will survive as an independent. Boise won't join a conference that isn't the Pac-something.

Unless something utterly drastic happens, I don't forsee any changes to the college football conference landscape anytime soon. Mainly because all proposed changes aren't really worth it.

You are correct for the here and now. When the AAC TV contract comes up for renegotiations, you might see all kinds of scenarios where payouts could increase with certain teams being in the mix. And if those numbers are higher than current payouts, anything is possible.
