With the year coming to a close, I'm curious what new hobbies/skills you've picked up this year? Do you think you ever would have picked it up if 2020 didn't happen?

Anything you plan to pick up in 2021 seeing that this pandemic doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon?

I've been trying to find a hobby for 2 years. They all end up being work so it kind of takes the joy out of them. Bleh!

I'm 88,000 words into becoming the next George R.R. Martin. But who's counting? :)

Kind of hard to find a hobby when all you do day and night is troll message boards.

*, but not really ;)

I’ve started doom scrolling the internet and avoiding my children. I got a ukulele for Christmas, so that’s 2021.

Traveling the northwest sampling shrooms and strumming a ukulele. You might just be a soul for another generation.

Or another planet

My new hobby is knifemaking. Just dropped some cash on a portable forge. I’ll be ready when the electric grid goes down and we go back to the Middle Ages.

This is dope. You joke but it's actually going to be a skill worth some shit! lol. What else are you being drawn to ? Or just really focusing on that craft for now?

I've actually been thinking about how my choices seem to have selected for a future that you hint at. Not sure how much is Covid related b/c I feel like I was headed down this path for a few years now. For example I've gotten in to woodworking these last 6-7 months (even though I got my saws last Christmas) and that's been loads of fun. I've made some furniture pieces but mostly will be going the wall art route. Love doing geometric wall art b/c you really don't even need artistic ability.

Everything else I've been drawn to is maker related too. Just something that keeps pulling me more and more away from this corporate nonsense. There's something about making things with your hands. I literally just bought equipment for candle and soap making this week. I have this fantasy of having a little shop in a small mountain town where I sell handmade art, soap and candles and go home to my off-grid shipping container mansion.

2021 I think I'm going to take up overlanding. I'm becoming addicted to the community and all the rigs out there so I'm thinking of snagging a 4Runner in the next few months to really get going in the off-road scene.

Oh I did grab a harmonica a couple of months ago though...it's a good time! lol

Nice. I've never played anything but have flirted with getting one over the last year. What type?
I got one off Amazon. I have no idea if it is a good one or not. They all seemed to be between 50 and 100. Even from guitar center. I didn’t want an expensive one because I’ll probably end up leaving it in a closet.

My second child is due on January 11th so that’s going to take up most of my already scarce free time.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older but I feel like I need to connect with some things that are more inline with self-sufficiency. I suppose it’s just risk mitigation activities bled over into real life.
