Navy only had 83 yards passing against Houston. We know they are going to run. Looking at the other side of the ball Houston only had 257 yards passing and 120 rushing. This could be lining up for a defensive game. Do you think Navy is a good matchup for our true freshman QB first start?😎

Marshal and Air Force beat them convincingly.

So can someone give me a quick run down on the new QB? Do we expect him to be promising and what are his strengths

this season already has a weird feel but CFB seems to do that , first few weeks over the top excitement but now kind of meh .

It’s what the playoff in its current existence has done to the sport. Only three or four teams in the country could accrue a loss and still get in. For the rest, one loss and your out there playing for a meaningless bowl game. Even worse in our case, the best bowl outside of G6 is what…maybe the Fenway Game vs an 8-5 ACC team? What a treat.

Even if the playoffs was top 12 teams, UCF would not have been involved the last two years and most likely not this year either. The expectation for this program now seems to be either all or nothing, and 95% of programs including successful ones go many many years without playing for top tier bowls.

2017-2018 has warped expectations. 2020 team's defense was a mess, gets blown out in bowl game. 2021 Expectation, team will go to NY6 bowl and defense will be dominant. It may seem unfathomable to some, but 2017-2018 may not be repeated anytime soon.

Right now just winning a bowl game over a bowl eligible P5 team would be the biggest accomplishment since 2018.

I know and understand that. But if we go undefeated the rest of the way (I don’t think we will) in a 12 team playoff we probably would be in it.

Im just saying in the current format, for 98% of the teams in FBS…1 loss and you’re out. It completely kills the competitive feeling within the sport. Even with only one loss we aren’t guaranteed a NY6 bowl.

I’m sorry but going 10-2 and playing an 8-4 Pitt in the Gasparilla Bowl or Fenway Bowl… that just sucks.

I'm still hopeful/rooting for the following:

Best case scenario
- Win out, finish with only 1 loss (Louisville)
- Conference champions
- G5 NY6 Representative (Still likely if win over Cinci/BYU loss/UCF undefeated in conference play/AAC Champs)
- NY6 Bowl Win
- Finish ranked top 15

Other scenario
If above doesn't work out and we get one more loss and/or no conference champions, and/or other undefeated G5 group takes NY6 bowl slot, then yeah at that point I guess we have to settle for P5 win in [insert random] bowl game.

The best case scenario may seem too far out there to some, but all it takes is Mikey being a stud, win against win-able Cinci (they haven't looked all that in all of their games), and pray BYU and/or other undefeated G5 team losses out. Is it hard, maybe unlikely with new freshman QB onboard...sure. But still possible. At least we won't have to hold our breath all season, we'll know where we stand in a couple of weeks after the Cinci game.

Coach said we wont lose another game. So lets stick with that. Play the games on the schedule. Recruit more depth so we can Win Big12 in 2023.

Anything can happen, but realistically Keene has to play Cincinnati better than Gabriel (54% completion rate 4td/4int in two games) and the defense has to be significantly better than what they are now.

Maybe somehow a 2nd year Gabriel at home is inferior to a 2 game experienced Keene on the road, who knows.

We find out soon enough.

Just for tidbit knowledge, the last time Malzhan started a freshman Qb it was also competition against Joey Gatewood. Bo Nix beat out Gatewood when they were both freshman at Auburn. Kind of interesting. At least we know the Coach is experienced in these kind of scenarios. How the outcome goes is TBD.

Go Knights!

Is Nix still the starter? I saw something on Facebook where he was on sideline about 40 yards from nearest coach or teammate.

Good post. Thanks.

Getting into Big12 has changed goals for this season. New goals are to build program as perennial Top 10 P5 team. We’ve received some grace for this season and with coaching change and Dillon injury we need it. A 10 win season for this season and next with at least one AAC championship (2022) sets us up for good recruiting.
