I honestly think people would be more receptive to the idea of lockdowns or mask mandates if there was a definable goal. If they gave us a number and said "above this level we require masks for 2 weeks, above this level we shut down for 2 weeks" people would see that as having a responsible plan. When they do stuff like put restrictions on Thanksgiving gatherings 4 weeks in advance, nobody has any faith in the so called "experts" and authorities.

The problem is the officials won't even abide by those restrictions. I'm not cancelling my holidays. We are about to test out herd immunity with 100,000 positive cases per day.

And at that rate, its too late to turn back now. Its time to accept the inevitable and just go back to the original, sensical approach: make sure the hospitals aren't overwhelmed. The only reason we lost sight of that is because of politics.
