No Brent Key!

Crappy part is we now owe him $700,000 dollars because his contract had a clause in it where if he's not the successor to George O'Leary, we would pay him.

The plan was to hand the keys over to Brent Key as the rumors suggested. Brent Key picked a bad time to stink it up.

He can't coach, and we owe him extra money now. You think he gets fired after the season?

That part of the contract make sense if Key is the coach they thought he could become. That part of the contract kept a promising coach from leaving for a better school. This year is a colossal failure on many fronts. Who knows what the future has for Key? He's still young and might fulfill the promise he has shown in the past. Just not here.

while I agree it would be better if the contracts were public, it appears it is just 2 years severance for not getting this promotion and instead getting fired. not terribly uncommon, especially for someone who got a HC offer. I'm sure a few others have another clause

Exactly, this guy proved nothing except horrible coaching. Blake did a great job of hiding how horrible Key is at coaching. Oh wow, UAB wanted him when they were scrapping their football. BFD. I hope he ends up at USF.

I was wondering this myself. Maybe the language in the contract specified that he had to be named as the official HC and at least given a full year of coaching duties, not simply take over as an interim HC until we find the guy we really want.

Yeah..that's a thought. You know he would have sucked and losses would be worse if possible. I think the team/fans were too down for anything other than a complete change. Also, it sends a bad signal that we are screwing coaches over and playing dirty
