I don't get the uproar with Trump wanting to temporarily halt allowing Muslims into this country until we can develop a method to vet them. Sharia law, which has wide support among Muslims, is counter to our Constitution and these are the Muslims that do not want to assimilate but want US citizens to conform to their ideology.

I agree to a halt on all immigration (not just muslims) until the vetting process is overhauled. We cant afford to have another incident.

I agree. Halt all gun and ammo sales to Americans until we can get background checks overhauled.

Oh wait, we're not targeting the largest group creating incidents within the US? Carry on

Trump -- First he went after the Mexicans, and now the Muslims. We get it -- "Make America White Again!"

Trump knows how to play the game, deal with it. Love seeing the fake ass cuckservative jimmies rustled.

As for the thread:

I have no problem with that. In fact, I like it better because that way the libs can't say it's singling out a particular group.

All Muslims aren't jihadists but all jihadists are Muslim.

Serious question: will the Republicans even give Trump the nomination at the RNC if he wins it? I am surprised they haven't begged Mitt Romney to come back with this shit show of current candidates.

Trump is just trolling now. It's great watching liberals faux rage. GUNS R BAD, TERRORISTS R GOOD!!!!!

Yah. Whenever his poll numbers start to dip, he's got to throw something out there that will potentially resonate with the sentiments of most real Americans.

I don't think so. A lot of Republicans have been distancing themselves from him and the establishment will find a way to squelch his popularity. It will be a Rubio or Cruz nomination.

I also think he's smart enough to figure that out because he just announced that he's considering running for POTUS as an Independent. That would help ensure Hillary as the next President.

That would be symbolically blowing up the Statue of Liberty. Closed borders is probably the most unAmerican thing that this govt has ever done. Yes it's right up their with our Jap concentration camps and slavery. Wrong is wrong.

C'mon, honors. You know damn well the intent of the statements. There is nothing wrong with putting a temporary stop to immigration until we can develop a proper process for vetting any and all potential immigrants. We'd be remiss if we did not.

Half of the immigrants in the country are on welfare. How about we take care of our own citizens and pay down our massive debt first.

I am dead serious. The biggest symbol of America is the Statue of Liberty which was built to show that we believe in open borders. That is an undeniable truth. Stopping immigration even for a day kills Lady Liberty.

And you're smart enough to know that there's no such thing as a temporary program with this oppressive government. A la social security and income tax. I've never heard of a govt program being shut down. And they never get smaller.

The vast majority of Americans don't pay their fair share ~$115k per person from 3.8T / 330m. So most people are freeloaders.

Look I don't vilify a college student who gets welfare subsidized loans. I'm not going to demonize someone who gets a welfare subsidized home mortgage. And I'm not going to criticize someone for taking free food that was given to them.

The problem with immigrants on welfare is welfare. Welfare is wrong bc it requires theft. Theft is always wrong.

The only way to touch our debt would be completely cutting one of the big 3 spending items SS, Medicaid & Medicare or the military. I'm fine with eliminating the first two and cutting the military by 90%. However that will all be for nothing when we are forced to pay market rates on our massive debt. Basically we are ****ed. Thanks Republicrates.

The funny this is now Trump and, even more so, Jeb say things ... that actually hurt the left media.

E.g., Jeb's "preference" for Christian refugees.

The left-media "counter" with, based on popular, but incorrect assumption ...
  • We don't ask or track religion
  • We cannot show religious bias
  • We do not investigate those seeking asylum
  • It's not in our creed
Which more moderate media immediately "counter-counters" with ...
  • The State Department asks immigrants for their religion, especially those fleeing religions persecution -- wholly unrelated to the American citizen's right to not disclose and practice as they wish
  • The State Department, by policy, is required to prefer those who are under greater threat of prosecution -- most specifically and explicitly, Christians and Jewish immigrants from Islamic nations
  • The State Department, by multi-agency policies, is required to vet and investigate immigrants, especially those seeking asylum from war-torn regions, including religion and religions ties
  • This has been long-standing US policy, especially in the State Department
The more recent "Visa" commentary from not just Donald Trump, but even Bernie Sanders who -- ironically, is more aligned with Trump than Clinton -- has caught most of the left-media off-guard. Clinton and even Jeb have been "big business Visa exploiters," and it's been funny to watch the "backtracking."

People forget the original H1B Visa vote in 1990 was done after most representatives had left for the end of the session, but the Congress session was not officially closed yet. It was done very late, and as a yea-nay oral vote, not recorded except that it passed ... with less than 40% in attendance. This has been the approach that continues in Congress to this today, when it comes to the Visa system.

Especially the over 1M undocumented and lost "residents" that came in on temporary Visas in the US ... people we have no idea where they are, even though State and other agencies are required to investigate and disclose.

I think you mean $11.5K. ;)

But yeah, it is around $75-100K per working age household.

The Statue of Liberty had nothing to do with open borders. It was built to celebrate America's century of independence and the friendship our country had with France. The vision was that Liberty would spread from America, not that immigrants would come to America.

If you're thinking this because of the poor huddled masses inscription, that came from a sonnet written to raise money for the base of the Statue of Liberty. But I do like how confirmed you are in your undeniable truth. Too bad you're so badly wrong.

Citizen vs non Citizen. there is a difference. constitutional rights apply to citizens, not to non citizens.

Er, sort of.

What you should say is the Statue of Liberty and the "Give me your sick, tired, poor ..." meant let people come to the US and make themselves, not rely on others.

An "open border"policy only has issues when ...
  • Productive "Migrant Workers": American businesses abuse them with Visa programs that don't let the productive ones become citizens, let alone allow them to pay well below market value -- especially when there are people taking part of the paycheck on both sides of the Atlantic, and ...
  • Unproductive "Undocumented Residents": Are given services and, worse yet, commit fraud in various states, including even forged voter IDs (in states that merely use a DL, which they don't check), as well as the "hidden costs," like their rate of car accidents they have without insurance, etc...
Again, the idea was the immigrant would be given an opportunity to make themselves. I still believe in that, and we have to get back to that ideal.

Don't blame the immigrant for the door mat we give them (unproductive) or abuse we take them for (productive).

Until the left and right both re-focus on letting immigrants make themselves, and get away from either "free votes" (for "free services") and "indentured servitude" (in endless Visa variations), we'll never solve the problem.

Ironically both Sanders and Trump do understand this. Clinton and Bush do not.

Stop trying to rewrite history like Obama saying arms in the 2nd amendment only meant muskets not semiautomatics.

A poem about open borders helped secured the funding for the Statue of Liberty when it looked bleak. It's on Ellis Island the place where immigrants were processed. It was bulit during a time when the thought of being able to close the borders of one the largest land masses would be literally impossible. So back then it was about welcoming immigrants. Today that means celebrating our history of open borders. These are undeniable facts.

Oh btw. Closing our borders is unconstitutional. Heck having "illegal" immigration is unconstitutional.

Big flaw in your thinking is that immigration must lead to citizenship. That is an uniquely American perception that is wrong. Currently there are immigration that doesnt directly lead to citizenship like school visas which Osama bin Laden got to study in America.

But answer me this, why should I not be allowed to hire a widowed Afgan woman to cook and clean at my house? She legally can't work in Afghanistan. If I pay her $2 a day that's twice the average wage in Afghanistan for MEN. When did we start telling citizens who they can and can't hire? That is an individual's choice which is paramount to Liberty.

Citizen vs non Citizen. there is a difference. constitutional rights apply to citizens, not to non citizens.

Bullshit. There is no distinction between citizen and noncitizens in the constitution. The distinction was human vs nonhuman which is what slaves were classified as. Nothing about citizenship.

Do you guys really think in the early 1800s people are walking around with proof of citizenship paperwork in America? You guys are so far off base and been indoctrinated into a fascist state mindset it's unbelievable. It's the fascist that would tell you things are so fundamentally different today but we must have these massive government programs. Once the people buy into that lie that we need to have government, Liberty is lost.

You said that the Statue of Liberty was built to support open borders. You were wrong. You're the one rewriting history. The statue was the brainchild of two French men and they certainly weren't celebrating any American open border policy.

The funding from America wasn't for the statue itself. That was a gift that was paid for by the citizens of France. The funding was for the pedestal. The poem written changed the message originally intended by the French sculptor..

When we have a massive welfare state to support, citizen vs non-citizen matters. It didn't exist in the 1800's. Immigrants coming in didn't get assistance, they went out and worked. We don't need new citizens, half of which live off the government, when we are borrowing $2-3B a day. Fix the welfare state first, then we can talk about letting in immigrants with skills and trades we need.

Okay I'll admit my wording was wrong. It wasn't built to for an open border policy bc a closed border was unimaginable at the time. It was built to celebrate Liberty and welcoming immigrants was a huge part of Liberty. Today, we see that the Statue of Liberty as being a symbol of what Liberty looks like which includes a time of open borders.

Look, America back then was seen as place where people could go if they wanted to breathe free. Only the wretched would refuse your teeming to our shores. America was for all people not just the privilege few who were luckily enough to born here. Lady Liberty is symbol of that idea. Now we shit on that belief with every law limiting immigration which we have made impossible today.

So the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of open borders today and that is undeniable.

Or we can open our borders again and see how immigrants without the crutches of welfare will flourish in America. Immigrants are 3x more likely to start a business and provide Americans with jobs than naturally born Americans.

You act like welfare is a Right that we have to provide to all people. We don't. Welfare is wrong. Can you at least agree with me that welfare is wrong?

Might I remind you, that in The Declaration of Independence the colonists were pissed off at King George for trying to make it impossible for German immigrants to become citizens.

The beginning of every anti immigration law was targeted at a nationality or a race. So all anti immigration laws are inherently racist which makes them all MORALLY WRONG.

Read the last sentence. Fix the welfare state first. Then we can let in immigrants that bring something the country needs.

I'll just leave this here:

From every liberal's favorite and impartial source, The Washington Free Beacon

‘The Constitution, by definition, is a document that protects the rights of the American people – to extend it to the citizens of foreign countries living in those foreign countries is to turn the Constitution from a document that protects Americans into one that renders them utterly defenseless,” the source said. “Congress can decide who to admit, and who not to admit, and on what grounds – our founding documents confer on no alien the right of entry to the United States and to travel down this road is to challenge the very idea that immigration is supposed to serve the American interest and no other.”

Number 8 US Code 1182, inadmissible aliens, a law was written in 1952 and passed by Democrat-controlled Congress, House and Senate, and signed by a Democrat president. Last used by Jimmy Carter during the hostage crisis in 1979 to prevent Iranians from entering the country and also to deport Iranian students.

"Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by president. Whenever the president finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate."

I have no issue with what Trump said either. George W Bush shouldve done the same after 9/11. We shouldve also let the terrorists take control of a country and set up a government instead of accuse said nations of harboring them. Why? So we can declare war on them afterwards. Its easier.

Oh gosh. You're going to quote random passages of random bills and arbitrary laws....

We really need to teach the constitution in school. There is nothing in DOI or constitution that grants the federal govt any power over immigration. NONE.

Movement of people is a natural right of all people just as the right to breath is. The US shall not limit that right of all people without due process which means they broke the law. The WHOLE REASON FOR THE CONSTITUTION IS SO THE GOVT DOESNT TRY TO MAKE LAWS THAT TAKE AWAY NATURAL RIGHTS.

Why is that so hard to understand?

I'm for LEGAL immigration, but rewarding criminals who came here illegally is total fückin shit. That's what awesome Israel does, why aren't they called racist for having a real border?

When did you become a fascist? You really want people to need a permission slip from the govt to move, live and work?

Cut the crap with this idealistic worldwide utopian bullsh!t. What you're dreaming of doesn't exist and never will as long as humans and their perverse natures exist. Why is that so hard to understand?!?
