The HC of a program’s most important skill is to… hire the right people. It’s true in every industry by the way. It’s what made Steve jobs, Steve Jobs. And what made Nick Saban, Nick Saban. He wasn’t the best because he was a great play caller. He was the best because his staffs were insane. That’s why every coach wanted to work for him. You want a coach who will hire the right guys…. Coordinators come and go but coaches need to have a skill for replacing and developing and Barry Odom has the best resume to meet this criteria.
Marion
Getting promoted and is drawing national buzz on his innovative offense
Ryan Walters
Later became the head coach at Purdue
Josh huepel
The sitting head coach of Tennessee
And what’s Odoms biggest knock?
He struggled at a school dealing with NCAA sanctions in the toughest conference at the height of its existence with the best teams to come through college football. Not to mention the school he was at is already a mid to low level school in the conference. And his “bad” was 8-5 and 6-6… with SANCTIONS and Less Resources in the Best conference in its BEST period
Oh and he’s currently lead a horrific UNLV program to back to back conference championships and possibly a playoff birth.
Odom has the best resume to meet the criteria of the candidates. Hopefully WVU doesn’t steal him.
