Scuze me for coming off like Dr. Smith (Google it, young'uns) but I think what people like GO'L and the administration are not taking into account is the emotional pain some of us (me) feel.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who is an alumnus who has put his heart and soul into rooting for this school and team. We've all spent money on this team (from clothing, tickets, trips, food, etc.) We've dedicated untold hours following the team. We've defended the school through the good and the bad times.
But now we get this.
We get players making mistakes that should have been coached out in high school. We get coaches making excuses. We get coaches who pay lip service to "the buck stops here," but who never suffer any consequences for their failure.
All of this following a head coach (and ersatz AD) who has repeatedly barked "shut up--I know what I'm doing." A coach who has berated the fans and the players for what he sees as failings all the while never admitting that he's no longer up to the job.
This is painful. Honestly and literally painful.
I'm not sure if I want to enter the stadium again if GO'L is on the sideline. I want the football team to no longer be his private plaything--His toy that he's free to use and abuse as he sees fit. Free from accountability.
Past successes received their praise and compensation. Current failures must now receive commensurate condemnation and penalty.
