O'Leary To Be Interim AD For Remainder of 2015

This is a trial basis to see if he wants to do it full time once he steps back from coaching, IMO. If he and Hitt are both pleased with the results at the end of the football season, I think they make it official.

Not the worst move in the world, he would view the job as something he wants to do right for the sake of making UCF better and not as a stepping stone. Hopefully the Big 12 views this as a good move for continuity in an already well run program.

I agree that this could be a good move but don't think it is long-term. Like it or not, he is the face of UCF, not just athletics. And since he exerts so much influence anyway, they might as well give him the title until we figure out our play for getting into P5. Since football drives the bus for conference alignment, he knows as many people as any coach in America. He cements his legacy and gets his statue if he can help pull this off. Hopefully, an Associate A.D. can be working full-time on P5 so that GOL doesn't miss anything while he is coaching football.

They may be doing a detailed search and needed to fill the space in for a while. Also, I know they want to get a BIG 12 person or such for AD. They are probably going to wait a bit to see what happens with realignment and the other assistant ADs (in the big 12 or other) who want to jump ship and come to UCF. JMHO

That the big 12 is expanding (or even holding onto Texahoma) is far from a done deal. That is a primary reason for keeping our options open for a while.

They mentioned Barry Alvarez went from Head Coach of football to AD, but he stepped down as head coach. Ray Tanner went from head coach of baseball to AD at South Carolina after stepping down as HC. Is there much precedent for being acting AD AND coaching a major program?

Barry Alvarez had both titles for a period of time (about two years in 2004-2005 and thru the 2005 football season).

Another great example is Bo Schembechler, who was AD and HFC for two seasons (1988 & 1989) at Michigan.

BTW Chris Ault did it at Nevada for a long time, then became just AD, took on interim HFC, then later came back as HFC full time.

In the end, you can either organize and lead a complex organization or not. Coach O'Leary can.

RIP Sports Journalism, killed by the snarky click whores of the world.

What the immature clowns at CBS are doing is not journalism.

Strange how all of those picked last for 4th grade kickball end up with the same group think orders.

Lets him get his feet wet, and see if it is something he would like. As for the B12 I don't think it hurts or helps. They will decide to expand or not based on $$$ and will decide who to add based on $$$. Adding an AD with B12 connections doesn't really matter. What will be will be.

George O'Leary's program has had a major NCAA infractions case & a wrongful death case. Sure, why not make him interim AD?

So what is Mandel saying? Does he have some evidence that O'Leary was involved in any recruiting violations that the NCAA investigators didn't find? Also, it's funny how, in a court of law, there was testimony that O'Leary had the water moved out of the way so it wouldn't be in the way while the team was running a drill, but yet Mandel knows what actually happened better than O'Leary and others who testified. If Mandel has some evidence of wrongdoing on GOL's part in those instances, then come out with it. Otherwise, he should shut the hell up.

Mandel is one of the most respected college football writers in the country.

Stop, breath, look around. When you start having almost everyone that is not affiliated with UCF say this is a bad idea, take off the goggles

I'm not really seeing a lot of people say it's a bad idea, just that it's sort of odd, which I tend to agree with. As long as he's just the interim guy, who cares? If they want to make him full time AD, I'm going to need convincing. Still, it's not like Mandel is saying anything factually incorrect, even if he is perhaps unfairly implicating O'Learys involvement in those things he's referring to. Just be happy people care.
