Just for ages that can’t be vaccinated. Rumblings from pediatric hospitals is delta is hitting kids harder than previous viruses. OCPS sports are still on for now.
We’ve got less than 3 weeks Until the start of our football season. I wonder if things get worse if they put a ordinance out on gatherings?
This makes absolutely no sense. Especially for sports that are played outdoors where transmission is non existent. The article says that 30 kids are hospitalized and links to article that reports that 27,000 kids tested positive last week. For this sake of this argument, let us assume that the Covid tests are anywhere near accurate. That would mean a total of .0011 percent of children are hospitalized with Covid. More than likely those are children with some sort of immune disorders because that has been the trend for the last year and a half. I would wager that the risk of being hospitalized from the actual sport they were going to play is significantly higher than being hospitalized by Covid.
It is a stupid rule, but the 27000 is for the entire state and the 30 hospitalized 6 ICU is from children’s hospital in central Florida. Not the entire statewide census.
Yes. Yes I see. I read that hastily. Good call. I found the number from the week prior to Aug 2nd. It was 7,544. So, assuming the numbers remained somewhat steady it would actually be around .004 percent Still extraordinarily low. Low enough to question the thinking on whoever actually pushed this idea.
Nothing that I do affects Florida. You guys are the ones freaking out about vaccines and masks and how dangerous it is without them. Eventually DeSantis might cave to those same sentiments and cancel sports.
Now here is where you and I will see eye to eye. Kids need to be able to play sports. There wasn’t one single case of Covid spread last season in lake Mary little league where my son plays. And it was like the Wild West with kids in dugouts, no masks, and all that jive.
I know you haven't. But that's the narrative that's driving this thing.
And yet kids aren't dying or even getting sick like adults.
This is 3rd grader logic, kids are the best protected. This 'cult' of 'vaccines work' needs to end, because they don't for many things ... including kids not needing some of them, like this one.

The US Media showing Florida kids in hospitals with non-SARS-CoV-2 caused pnuemonia started this BS hysteria. No change in rates at all with Delta for kids, period.
At most, it's getting more 30'ish people.

You need to go back and take that class again (where they teach you to calculate percentages).
30 hospitalizations from 7,544 positive tests = 0.4% (you get the percent when you multiply for 100, j/k)

No, that's not far from the prior rate pre-Delta.
The multi week stay rate is also similarly lower like prior too. The death rate is also similarly even lower than that like prior too.
Nothing has changed with Delta for kids.
This is 100% US Media narrative.
Remember, that's tests v. hospitalizations (and multi week stays, as well as deaths), not all kids. That's why the overall rates change based on tests, but not overall.
The sooner we admit we're all spreading (although kids 1/10th as much as adults), the sooner we stop this madness.
Testing is only good for identifying treatment at this point, not quarantine.

I was making reference to the narrative being pushed here last fall that "Covid does nothing to kids, open the schools. There are no U-15 kids in the ICU from Covid anywhere/in the USA". I guess that was BS also

But going from age 40 down to age 10, it drops, an order of magnitude for every decade. That's why only 4-6 kids die/week from SARS-CoV-2, and it's been holding steady through every variant, including Delta. That's hardly any higher then the common Influenza Virus (IV) B & C strains, and far, far lower than non-SARS/non-Flu caused pneumonia.
In fact, complications from pneumonia in kids are 10x more common than 'long COVID' -- i.e., long SARS-CoV-2 diseased individuals who don't recover fully / build up a natural immunity.
So we're shutting schools over something that kids and complicates far, far less than everyday pneumonia, something that kids already get 2-4 vaccines for when they are infants. That's how UN-scientific we are! Don't believe me? Look at the numbers of deaths! Non-SARS/non-flu caused pneumonia dominates!

It was only 354 last week, 349 before that, etc... It hasn't changed with Delta at all! Out of over 50,000 deaths, respiratory diseases are a few thousand, dominated by non-SARS/non-Flu caused pneumonia. It's so low that the US Media was showing kids in Florida ICUs on respirators for pneumonia not caused by SARS-CoV-2! Total misinformation! Kids are on them nearly 10x more for such than SARS!
This is absolute hyperbole and control based on no scientific basis! Even us vaccinated adults spread it 10x more than unvaccinated kids!
Well, a 3 year-old has a less developed immune system than a 5-17 year old. But other than maybe soccer, those other 2 can be socially distanced well enough. But at some point, kids have to be kids.
I will not take that class again. I’m kind of an idiot so forgetting a step is just what I do. I liked my percentage better. More dramatic.

My wife spent a decade teaching teachers (their re-certification and continuing PDUs), and now runs an entire department. She's apaulled at how many in-service teachers don't understand that the acronyms are sh--.
Because one does division with multiplication, and subtraction with addition, not after or before.
She literally pulled me in, and I read them the engineering riot act after about 10 responses, and send them the motherlode list of authorities when they got nasty. I also sent them CAS and RPN examples from various sources too.

What if I used “Please Eat MusheD ASs”? That way multiplication/division are together. So are addition/subtraction.
