Now a basketball power, Wichita State Coach Gregg Marshall has been oversigning recruits in recent years and then placing certain players at a specific prep school, (Sunrise Christian Academy in KS), for another year of development, but basically a placement for a year which allows him to continue to look for unsigned players/top transfers well after signing day.
Marshall even took it a step further, and hired the HC from Sunrise Christian Academy to his staff. (This is the same prep school that then new USF Head Coach Antiqua got both of his first signees from: McMurray and Santos).
Here was an example of one of Wchita's recent recruits, Hamilton, who was already practicing/working out with the team in the summer...but do to a late chance to grab a more important player, Marshall moved Hamilton to a prep school (room, board and tuition ran $20,000 plus) for a year.

While Wichita State is not the only program that does this...it just doesn't feel right when signed players suddenly end up with a $20,000-$40,000 bill (less with some scholarships but usually 5 figures), and never have a problem playing said bill.
