If you like to travel a lot like I do, I found a company that quickly allows you to become a travel agent. As you probably already know, travel agents receive 10-12% from almost all hotels and resorts. I believe they receive even more for cruises. This company kicks back 70-80% of those commissions back to you for every booking. Thats your worst case scenario.
Here’s the best part: Most hotels and cruise lines offer travel agents familiarization trips at huge discounts (10-80% off). They want you to visit their resorts so you can then sell packages to your “customers”. For example, I just received a 40% discount at a popular Maldives Resort (for a Summer booking) plus a free upgrade plus free breakfast. This will save me 20k for the week. The 1Hotel in NY offered me 400-500/night off a two bedroom unit for an April trip. I received a 2k commission check from the Chileno bay in Cabo for a Thanksgiving trip.
It costs about 60/month to join and a one time up front fee up of $199 but I’ve already recovered my first 3 years of membership with my first trip. You also get commissions and referral fees if you book trips for family, friends, etc and if you refer people to the company.
The company refunds you your entire membership if you don’t break even the first year.
This is also a huge money saver if you have your own company and do a lot of corporate travel.
You can book direct with all the resorts or cruise lines and just give them your IATA number.
You could also make this a career if you wanted to put in the time. They have extensive training available also.
