This is just game theory (a what if scenario).
The ACC has a GOR through 2036 and a TV contract for the same amount of time that will leave them well behind the SEC, Big 10 and possibly the new Big 12. All three will be able to negotiate a second TV contract before the ACC's current TV deal expires. That's the main reason their teams are looking to break out of the ACC. Assuming the GOR is as ironclad as it appears will a bold expansion open the TV contract for renegotiation while leaving the GOR in place?
While all the media attention is on Big 12 vs Pac 12 and will the Big 10 expand again the ACC works behind the scenes and pulls in 6 new Big 12 teams adding UCF, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Baylor, TCU & Houston. Would adding these markets and brands be enough to not only open the TV contract but put them within a respectable amount of the SEC & Big 10 contracts, around 75-80% (instead of the current projection of half to a third)? Have the new TV deal be for 5-7 years.
Fix the TV money and schools will stop looking at the exit, they'll be able to pull in the schools from the Big 12 and have them be willing to sign onto the incredibly long GOR and renegotiate the TV contract in a normal time frame.
