OT: Go TCU!

It took TCU 3 years to look really ready to compete in the Big 12. They went 12-1 that season and finished in the top 5. Hopefully we can get there that quick as well. It’s a process. Finding a top-notch QB is vital. Gus and staff (any staff for that matter) need to always make finding QBs the top priority, even if you have one. You never know when a guy might transfer out, get injured, etc…

People have to temper thier perspective as well and have realistic expectations. They had a stretch where 3 out of 4 seasons they won at least 11 games, but then basically went .500 for the past four seasons, prior to the elite season they are having in 2022.

Hopefully our “lows” can be 8-9 wins instead of .500 but that might be a little aggressive. I might have to adjust my definitions down to 7-8 wins for a good season once in the Big 12 (9-10 wins for Very Good, and 11 or more wins to be Elite). Right it looks like less than 15 teams will finish with 11 or more wins. That’s pretty elite fir an entire season. Also, for example, 7-8 wins is merely counting on 2 of your 3 OOC games as booked wins, then going like 5-4/6-3 in conference play.

With the portal lots of things are possible. Sonny killed it this year. 14 transfers to a team that didn’t make a bowl last year.
In this era it's critical to address immediate roster needs with portal hits. Although it should only be used to supplement the existing roster, bringing in a half dozen or so starters/rotational guys can be the difference between being stagnant and rising up.

TCU got rid of their coaching too long Coach and in Year 1 Sonny does this
I don’t get the point? You have to coach with the players you have. Patterson and staff developed everybody that is not a true freshman, or players who transferred in were developed somewhere else. Just saying he has a lot to do with the success you saw today…kind of like 65% or so of our 2017 team were O’Leary recruits/players. They were the foundation. Frosts recruits were the cherry on top.

Sometimes it can turn into a disaster as well. It really is as much art as science right now…knowing what you’ll need or thinking some position’s aren’t going to be as good as you thought so you bring someone in, whereas in the past you might’ve just had to live with it until the next recruiting class.

there really are some parallels between TCU and UCF..them obviously being ahead on the conference move ups . It is amazing they won a CFP game on their first appearance when Oklahoma was 0-4 I think

And when you are a Program with a beautiful campus in Texas and Florida you shouldn’t be called delusional for having expectations and dreaming big. Look at #32 and #36

Reactions: U C to the F
So y'all do like my New Year's resolution...

Why not UCF?
there is no UCF fan that doesn't know what we're capable of. the problem is your man gus and his pathetic view of offensive football. no team is going to win with a WR/DB/RB at QB. nick marshall and auburn would get trounced in this era where you can't touch receivers and they're always open. i said it last year, he has a problem with finding QBs, it's his biggest failing as a coach. auburn's best actual QB that one year was cam newton and he was bought by boosters, coaching staff be damned.

During the semifinal game they were talking about Duggan and another TCU player about transferring after the coaching change ..Duggan said ‘No I love TCU’

Hopefully UCF gets back to that

Jarrett Stidham, Malik Willis, and Bo Nix would disagree. That's two NFL starters and a future NFL draftee who has a chance to finish among the top 15 all-time passing yardage leaders in college football history.

I think Gus needs to take a quarterback out of the portal, and I have been adamant that Spencer Sanders is the best a available. But Gus will need to go head-to-head with Hugh Freeze and Lane Kiffin to get him. I think he. I don't know if he will.

Willis was benched last week. He probably never starts again.

what are you on? calling stidham a starter after 1 career start in 4 seasons is wild. and malik willis is done as an NFL starting QB and was a gus castoff. you can't credit him for recruiting him and then credit him for not playing him forcing him to transfer to liberty.

and bo nix is an auburn legacy that was going there if you were the coach. and failing to get anything done with him is not a good look for gus since you think so highly of bo nix (i don't, he's trash as an nfl prospect).

Bo Nix was the more heralded, better developed quarterback at the time. Willis couldn't beat out Joey Gatewood for the backup job.

Still Gus signed Willis as a QB. Have to credit Gus for recognizing the skills.

And both Bo and Willis will be NFL quarterbacks.

malik willis is an nfl quarterback because he's currently on the roster of an nfl team. but quarterbacks who are afraid to throw don't last long and he's done. he's irrelevant to gus anyway because he clearly didn't utilize him. he's a credit to hugh freeze as an excellent college QB.
