OT: memphis fires Pastner

Did Memphis fire him or did he leave to go to GaTech

I'm not sure. Just saw headline, didn't read article. didn't really care that much to go into too much detail. Just a fyi, hopefully Memphis gets notched down with a new coach so we can finally beat them.

Sorry for misleading title. I went off and read the article. Memphis did not fire them. I was unable to edit the title.

"
He would have been owed $10.6 million if fired by Memphis, and that helped to save his job.

Memphis President David Rudd and athletic director Tom Bowen said on March 18 the school was sticking with Pastner but would "make the necessary investments and changes" so it can "compete at the highest level."

Pastner will owe Memphis $500,000 for leaving the job."

Good for us, he's a horrible coach. He's run a perrenial top 25 program into mediocrity...ar best.

I bet Memphis told him that if he left they would waive the $500,000

Not only did they do that...but Memphis will also pay Pastner $1.255 Million over the next 2 years....$$$ which Memphis wasn't liable for but they obviously wanted Pastner to leave the school (voluntarily to another job) in a really, really bad way.

We been down since 2 years ago and we still lay waste to you. Can't imagine what our next actual real coach will do to you.
Both Memphis and UCF have been headed downward ever since we became the American conference because both our coaches suck (not that we were ever lighting it up in the past). Try not to lie to yourself. You ruled CUSA because your talent level was so much better than everyone else, even with the inferior coaching of Pastner. With our conference getting a bigger and better profile, the other programs you face have better players and the conference is much tougher top to bottom. We suck in basketball....thanks for finally figuring that out. See football for 10 straight season of UCF beating down your football squad (we haven't played the last two seasons).

Exactly, if UCF basketball is a measuring stick, than Davidson is a basketball powerhouse.

Memphis is at risk of losing its elite basketball status. Don't take that out on us because we point out the obvious.

Agreed with your post but the bold part isn't totally correct...as most years, Memphis has some of the best talent in the conf...yet they struggle playing together as a "team"...hence why teams like USF, ECU and Tulane can beat them now.

Better coaching with the SAME talent should push Memphis back in the Top 3-4 of the conf...and with better future "team" players (Pastner's major fault was recruiting top "individual players", not "team" players)...Memphis might be able to challenge for the top spot int he coming years.

I think this also comes a little from Memphis trying to change its image a bit. Focusing on football more. Memphis is probably in the top 25 programs nationwide historically, (somewhere around 20 to 23). But with the focus starting to turn to conference affiliation it is going to become more and more important that Memphis win in the AAC.
