A few talking points from below interview by AAC Board:

McMurphy:

"Fast forward 6 years and conference realignment kicks off again. Would BYU be more attractive as an Independent that wins 7, 8, 9 or 10 games a year (stuck going to the Dallas city bowl regardless of win total), or if they went to the NY6 and knocked off a good P5 team?"

"The challenge is that you can win 10 games. Without being in a conference, you can't get into the conversation for a New Years game"

"Could show other conferences that you aren't a pain in the a** to deal with"

"Doesn't think either side would want full membership, due to travel"

BYU guys: We've had a national championship and a heisman winner. Do we need to make a splash in a conference to prove ourselves?

McMurphy: It's a case of what have you done for me lately. UConn won a national championship in basketball, but fell into the gutter over the past few years.

BYU guys: Do you think we'd make more in AAC than Independent

McMurphy: AAC is making $7m per team. BYU probably isn't getting that. AAC will likely need to renegotiate in good faith with ESPN. AAC will go to ESPN and say "If we add x, how much?"
