It's off season so this is a topic to talk about. Wondering if any else has the same opinion. Just an observation, after we won the Fiesta bowl there was some chatter that we would start landing 4 star commitments. Then after the Peach Bowl win the chatter was even greater on recruiting potential. Both resulted in very little movement with additional 4 star players. Now that UCF officially has that P5 label I am pleased with the 4 Stars showing interest with several from the transfer portal already committing. Looks like the data is verifying how much weight that P5 label carries. So glad UCF is heading to the BIG 12 in 2023. "Charge On"

Remember the book of Star Belly Sneaches on the Beach by Dr. Seuss? The entire P5 G5 label reminds of the Sneaches on the Beach and those with and without stars . The only thing differentiating one Sneaches over the other was a star. Other than that they were the same Sneach. It was all perception because of the star that they were better.

It also reminds of 8th grade when Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and Jordache jeans were all the rage with the girls at Milwee Middle . The girls with painted on Jordache or Gloria Vanderbilt seemed to think they were hotter in their tight jeans than say the girls wearing Wrangler or Levies or Lee. Yet from our perspective they all looked pretty fine in their panted on pants.

For a while UCF has already been better than half of the P5 out there and we did it without 4 star kids or the P5 moniker . That class that beat Gus was like ranked 67th in overall recruiting . I am not saying having that label isn't a bad thing ,but the P5 label is contrived because so many P5 schools suck and will never sniff the top 10 ever . You can put any brand of jeans on an attractive women and the jeans will look great. However take a less than attractive lady and it doesn't matter if she has Jordache or Gloria Vanderbilt or Levies she is still not attractive . Half the P5 are just always ho hum never going to win programs . P5 G5 what ever they are just cashing checks as GOL once said.

So , I welcome the P5 status but at the end of the day it's not the only thing going for UCF . In fact it's just a small feather amongst many great things about UCF.

Cincinnati not only has the advantage of a freshly minted P5 lable but also the benefit of their coach not wanting to leave for "greener pastures". Ironic given his last name "Fickell" (Hey, it's father's Day so I had to put a dad joke in there somewhere). Maybe Gus will stick to his word of wanting to see this all the way through to his retirement.

TV exposure is another major factor in recruiting top talent so hopefully when the dust settles on this round of realignment the Big12 comes out in at least as strong of a position as they are now.

Oh, and the NIL is a major factor but given that it's like the wild west right now it's will have to go through so many changes before it settles into some sort of pattern that can be untilized more equally among everyone. I wouldn't hold your breath on that happening anytime soon though.

Hopefully we can use these three things as a spring board to a higher rate of 4 star talent each year. At least we may finally be able to recruit guys that won't get "downgraded" because they chose a "G5 school"...

Edit - I forgot to add another factor we have going for us, the Orlando area. While it may not be the most important thing in recruit's minds it can help tip the favor in our direction.

I think Gus dedicates the rest of his career here and propels UCF to magnificent heights most people dare not dream of.

Real talk.

I don’t think TV exposure changes much. Every one of our games the last 10 years or so has been available on tv as long as you pay for channel. Probably longer. B12 doesn’t have a network of their own so a few games will still be on ESPN+. FS1 as well if they keep that deal. You just have to win if you want to be on best channels and time slots. Conference won’t change that much.

I was thinking more along the lines of being on the national network channels more consistently as opposed to the + type streaming services and alternate sports channels.

Yeah that comes with winning. No matter the conference. I’m pretty sure in last 6 years we’ve been on Network more than a lot of P5 teams.

You are vastly underestimating the difference in the amount of attention the media pays to every P5 game versus the G5. Sure, our games were on TV, but between games the only time you ever heard is talked about was when we were top 25. Every college football show covers every P5 game throughout the week. That is enormous.

Not to mention during games espn would rave about dofferent p5 teams while broadcasting our game. We would also get stuck with the D squad callling the games

Cincinnati‘s playoff appearance and new P5 label is really helping them in recruiting this year. Imagine our recruiting if we announced Big 12 admission during our two undefeated seasons. For many of the top players…. That P5 label is huge.

We’ll be fine as Gus can really recruit. Once we start winning in the B12, recruiting will really explode and four star commitments more common.
